- We won. For four weeks, there’s been a lot of hard work for the players and coaches followed by a lot of frustration. This week there was hard work followed by joy. That’s a huge difference. We needed that but they needed it far more than we did.
- It looked bad when Wake Forest went 91 yards to score the game’s opening touchdown, (15 via penalty). They had 94 yards offense in the rest of the game and our defense scored twice. That looked a lot better.
- Our offense wasn’t scintillating except for DeVante MacFarlane’s long run but it was effective. With so many injuries and third string quarterback we aren’t going to try anything dazzling. We had to grind it out and we did.
- Our third down efficiency was excellent in the first half, when we overcame the lead and took control of the game. We were 6 of 9.
- AJ Long didn’t try to do too much, (a mild surprise for a guy who nicknamed himself “Freelance”), and ran a controlled offense efficiently, which is what we needed him to in this game.
- Steve Ismael made some good catches in the first half and wound up with 6 for 72 yards.
- Cole Murphy was 3 for 3 on field goals. He’s now 9 for 10 on the season.
- Riley Dixon had a couple of odd punts in the second half but averaged 49.5 on two first half punts and, again, that’s when we took over the game. Riley barely missed winning his battle with Wake’s Alexander Kinal, 44.3 yards per punt to 44.9. Both are very good.
- Poor Wake Forest. We’ve played them four times and they have lost three quarterbacks, (Ben Mauck in ’06, Tanner Price in ’11 and John Wofford today) and a star wide receiver, (Michael Campanaro in ’13) in the four games. They may come out next year holding crosses out at us to protect themselves from our evil spirits.
- Those are my favorite uniforms: we are 2-0 in them and have out-scored the opposition 70-10.
- Happiness is watching other college football games, knowing that SU has already won and looked good doing it. .
3-4 with 5+ to go
LET’S GO ORANGE!!!!
