- Big East? Big Deal. We beat this team like they were Bucknell or Tulane- even worse. We are 14-0 against teams that are 111-49, (.694) against everybody else. And we’ve beaten by an average of 21 points per game. - That might have been our best defensive game ever against a Big East-level opponent. At least it was the gaudiest statistically with 15 blocks, 17 steals and holding the Pirates to 31% shooting, (and it took them the whole game to reach that level- at halftime they were 5 for 27: 18.5%). I was concerned that we weren’t doing well offensive but it didn’t matter- the lead just grew an grew. A lot of things don’t matter if you play strong defense. - Fab Melo’s development appears to be taking place in time-lapse photography. He swallowed Herb Pope, supposedly the Big east best big man, whole in this game, blocking 10 shots and holding Pope to 2 for 9 shooting. He also scored 12 points on his won 6 for 9 shooting, including a jump-hook and a medium range jumper. The sky’s the limit for the Fabulous One. - Dion Waiters continues the burn up the court. He led the team in scoring for the 5th time in six games with 15 points in 19 minutes. He’s played 299 minutes this year and scored 175 points, 23.41 per 40 minutes of play. There won’t be too many guys this year who can guard him. - It was Brandon Triche who got the scoring started in this game and he had a good one with 11 points, 4 assists, and no turnovers. He’s also having another great year form the line: 24/28 (.857). If it ever gets close at the end, just get the ball to Brandon. Game over.
