- I don’t care if they may have better teams in other years, beating Georgetown, then Connecticut, then Louisville in a 6 day period is possibly the best such stretch we’ve ever had in the regular season.
- We shot 1 for 15 from three, committed a season’s worth of dumb fouls and yet beat Louisville, who had beaten us 7 times in a row, in their place.
- We did that by playing great defense- holding them to virtually the same shooting percentage that we shot- 34.4% vs. 34.7% while stealing the ball 12 times. We held them without a field goal from the 11:42 point of the first half until 1:31, (10 minutes and 11 seconds), and then for the final 3:38. We don’t let teams take control of games when we aren’t scoring so we stay in these games and give ourselves a chance to win them.
- We are now 9-1 in games decided by single digits. It’s not like we do everything right but we do enough things right to win these games.
- Our rebounding totals are interesting. Kris Joseph and Fab Melo had 6 each. Scoop Jardine, Brandon Triche, Dion waiters and CJ. Fair had 5 each. James Southerland had 4. I guess everyone got the memo. Deing had 10 for Louisville and Behana had 9 but we only lost the battle of the boards by 3, which allowed out 8-16 advantage in turnovers to give us an edge.
- A key to our #1 turnover margin ranking, (+6.8: the second place team is +5.7), is that, while we make a lot of steals, we don’t turn the ball over ourselves. We’ve had 15 single digit turnover games this year, including 7 of the last 9 games.
- What is the impact of Fab Melo? He not only had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and block. But look at this stat: Louisville missed 18 of 30 shots inside the arc. And how about this: SU outscored the Cardinals 38-24 in the paint- to win by one point.
- Brandon Triche didn’t shoot that well but 8 points, 5 rebounds , a couple of assists and 23 minutes of hustle were a nice comeback from a bad game vs. UCONN. And he was in there at the end, which people had been talking about.
- James Southerland isn’t ripping the nets but 4 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals is pretty good for 18 minutes of work.
- Kyle Kuric was 1 for 8 from the field, including 1 for 6 from three. Heh heh heh….heh heh heh…
- We didn’t play very well tonight but when the game seemed to be slipping away, we came up with enough of a run to get back in it each time. We were down 5-12 and went on a 10-2 run to take the lead. We were down 22-27 early in the second half and used a 10-3 run to take the lead again. And when the Cardinals went on their 2-15 run to take a 46-51 lead, we responded by scoring the last 6 points for the win.
- What the heck is a matter with Rick Pitino. He’s lost one in a row to Jim Boeheim. The guy must be going senile.
26-1 and 13 to be done….. Impossible is nothing!!!!
LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
