- We won. To paraphrase Gertrude Stein, a win is a win is a win is a win. And we haven’t had one in 11 months. This was the one game on this schedule that we absolutely, positively had to win. We were not playing a pushover. But we got a win. There’s no “but” in that sentence. You read about BCS level teams losing to FCS or borderline FBS teams. Not us. Nobody would have called us “the best 0-3 team in the country”. There's an upside down helmet at the top of this board for the first time in along time.
- That was a good team, one of the top teams in FCS. Last year they lost in the playoffs on the road to the #1 team by a touchdown. It wouldn’t shock me to see them win the title this year. This win might actually be a feather in our caps by season’s end.
- And we pounded ‘em, out-gaining the Seawolves 549-310 and getting 27 first downs to 13. In the second half the yards were 314-60. We aren’t going to lose too many games if we keep rolling up 500 yards and we are averaging 533 a game.
- They were the running team but they only out- rushed us by 217-214. And after the early bomb to Worrell, they completed just 3 passes for 31 yards. Meanwhile we passed for 335.
- Ryan Nassib continues to roll up numbers we’ve only read about but never seen here before. He was 22 for 35 for 335 yards for 3TDs and no picks. For the season: 97 of 147, (.660) for 1139 yards (380 per game) 9TDs and 3 interceptions.
- Marcus Sales has done the same: 5 receptions for 117 yards and a score. For the season: 25 for 350 yards and 4 scores. The Pinstripe Bowl was not an illusion. This guy’s the real deal.
- Prince-Tyson Gulley didn’t have a big day rushing the ball but he has a beautiful 63 run with a screen pass that we desperately needed at the time.
- Jerome Smith had a solid game with 95 yard son 18 carries.
- But Ashton Broyld is becoming the main man in our running attack. He’s bigger than Smith and seems to have nearly as many moves and as much speed as Gulley. He had 61 yards on 10 carriers and made a great move to score his first touchdown. He caught two passes for 20 yards. We haven’t seen him throw it yet. I hope they have a halfback option in the offense. He’d be the ideal guy for it.
- The defense had full control of the game in the second half. They both made up for the offense’s shortcomings and benefited from them as the Seawolves always had a long field.
- Miguel Maysonet had that beautiful, (ugly for us0) 71 yard scamper down the sideline to put his team ahead but was 21 for 87 yard otherwise and the much feared Marcus Coker had only 59 yards in 17 carries. Basically, other than the two long plays, the Seawolves had no offense to speak of at all. We aren’t Pace.
- Watch out when a team sick of losing begins winning. This is the beginning of a winning streak.
Payback time!
1-2 with 9 to do.
LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
