- We have now beaten the mighty Panthers 3 out of the last four times we’ve played them. Is this thing finally turning around? - Matt Park said it best: This is Tyler Ennis’ world. We just kind of live in it. Ennis won this game, pure and simple with consecutive spectaculars drives through the Pitt defense for dipsy-doo lay-ups and a couple of free throws in the run that that took us from a hopeless-looking 49-52, (that felt like a 20 point deficit the way we were playing) to 57-54 with 5 seconds left. - Where did those sky hooks Rakeem Chrsitmas was throwing in come from? They looked almost automatic. Matt called him “Kareem Abdul-Christmas”. Give us some more of that! - Jerami Grant had another reach-behind-him follow-dunk. He also made the free throws that started our comeback. - CJ Fair got off to a strong start, scoring 8 of the points that took us from down 4-7 to up 21-15. He was also our leading rebounder with 6. - As bad as our rebounding was in that 12-25 second half stretch, in the final 10-2 run that won the game, we were 4-4. If we can break even on the boards with Pittsburgh, we can beat them. We won this game because we dominated the times when we did break even. - Rebounding was a big stat for them. Here’s big stat for us: We were 17 for 26 on two point shots, (.654). Pittsburgh was 13 for 33, (.394). That inside passing game that was supposed to carve up our zone never materialized because we fanatically defended the top of the top of the key like it was the Alamo. When they wheeled around to attack the baseline, we surrounded them like it was the Day of the Triffids. Pittsburgh’s points, aside form Patterson’s little run, did not come as result of defensive weaknesses by Syracuse: it was the rebounding. - Ultimately, it was balance that won the game for us. Patterson and Zanna score 30 of Pitt’s 54 points. We had four guys in double figures. 18-0 with 13+ to go Let’s Go Orange!
