Well another season is upon us, so here is my mostly non-football related review of a football game.

It felt wonderful walking up the hill yesterday. The smells, the people tailgating, the wheezing. That hill isn’t getting an easier.

The Quad was very busy, which was nice to see. Had a friendly nod with a gentleman who had the Heisman stolen from him by the name of McPherson. Gave the young boys with me a quick lesson.

I was disapointed from the get go with the pre game crowd. I could tell it was going to be super empty. Student section filled in quite nicely, but even they were non-existent As the game got into the later minutes.

Sound: Still an issue. Has not been addressed at all. The music is muddled. The videos and ads need subtitles. The “host” is a complete waste as you cannot hear a word. Let me re-phrase that. You can hear EVERY word, you just can tell what those words are. The intro video looked amazing. Any one able to tell me what was said? Piece regarding Ottos induction into the HOF? No idea what was said. It begs the question once again, why continue to put the work into these videos and such? No one is getting anything out of them. Hometown Heroes are gonna get my support 100% of the time, but I sure would like to know the backstory you’re trying to tell me on the video. It’s sad. They’d honestly be better off doing a power point presentation.

I love that Dino Rocks that Hawaiian shirt.

In a week that saw schedule posters debut on social media, guest services had none. Now I admit I should have looked on the quad, but they are normally at guest services. Gonna have to get stocked up.

I’m an old marching band guy. Shocked there are only 11 members of the color guard. That’s not a lot.

Not gonna lie, I was a little cold. I used to gripe about the air in there on these September games being so stagnant. Yesterday I was borderline looking back at those days fondly.

I am one of the few who never complains about the internet in there. Mostly because I usually get fine service via the Wi-Fi in there, maybe it’s where I sit. But yesterday was horrid. I couldn’t do anything via the Wi-Fi or my data. Must have something to do with the work being done.

As we exited the dome, it was rainy, and the sun was shining as it set. There is a nice feeling of coming out of a win with an orange sky. But it was a little eerie. Everyone was taking pictures, so I know I’m not the only one who was in awe of it. Even a rainbow! See pics below.

That’s all I have to say regarding the game, as there wasn’t a lot of people, so not a lot to work with. I would like to add one interesting fact…

A couple of weeks ago I attended the Alice Cooper/Motley Crue/Def Leppard show at the Dome. Overall it was good, with cooper and Leppard being fantastic, and Crue being god awful.
A day or two after the show, Leppard shared a video on the Syracuse show as part of their tour video diary on their YouTube channel. The hidden gem in this video would only be noticed by us, but should have been noticed by all involved for a mention during the show. The night of our show in the Dome, was Def Leppard’s 44th anniversary of the day they signed their first record deal at the kitchen table of drummer Rick Allen’s parents house. What are the chances they would play SYRACUSE on their 44th anniversary? That crazy, and really freakin cool. I thought you might find interest in that tidbit.

Till next week,
LGO

Really appreciate you sharing your take. It’s awesome to hear all the different perspectives on the atmosphere. Living in Hawaii and Korea for the past five years has made it to get to any games.
