The Rock was missing three guys yet we struggled getting going against them. It was only 22-18 with 7:22 left in the first half. A three point play by Kyle Cuffe, a short jumper by Eddie Lampkin, a lay-up off the break by Freeman, a three by Chris Bell and it was 32-18 at 5:14. Bobby Clifford hit a trey for the Rock at the 5:00 mark. A lay-up by Starling, two frees by Freeman, a trey from the corner by Lampkin (?!?), two more Freeman free, a Bell lay-up off the break still two more frees by Freeman, a thee on the break by Davis and it was 48-21 with 1:06 left. Game over. A 26-3 run. We hit 47% from three, (15/32) and we aren't going to lose when we do that. A disappointment was that after Red had expressed displeasure over our 42-32 rebounding against Clarion, he got a 50-42 response in this game. We had 14 turnovers after only 6 in the Clarion game. The Rock out-blocked up 4-5. Red again had strange line-ups, getting everyone a shot but focusing on guys who didn't play much in the first game and various combinations. Jyare Davis and Elijah Moore led the team with 23 minutes. Davis, who looks a little doughy to me, (hanging around Lampkin's rubs too much?) played well with 10 points and 7 rebs, making a couple of threes, although I prefer his medium range-jumper. I know it's fewer points but this isn't the NBA, where most of those stats come from: some guys are just better at 15 feet than 20. He also isn't tall enough to operate in the paint all the time. He tried a dunk and didn't get halfway there. Moore hit four threes, all of them from different spots. Jaquan Carlos ignored his own game altogether, taking 1 shots, (that missed) in 21 minutes and getting shut out of points. But he had 6 assists and 3 rebounds. I doubt he cares that he didn't score. Lucas Taylor also played 21 minutes. He hasn't found his shot yet going 1 for 5 from outside in the two games. But he was able to go inside for three other baskets, although he missed two free throws. He had 6 rebounds but 3 turnovers. Petar Majstorovic played 19 minutes and did nothing spectacular, (he also took only one shot and missed but made 3/4 from the line and added 5 rebs and a couple assists). But he also didn't hurt us. Just a smart, unselfish player. Kyle Cuffe, according to Eric Devendorf, is 5-10 or 5-11. Tim Leonard said that "The roster says he's 6-2" Eric: "No...it said I was 6-4. I was never more that 6-2". Eric did credit Kyle for being "tough" multiple times. He fearlessly drove to the basket and battled taller players to score 3 baskets and go 4 for 4 from the line for 10 points. Donnie Freeman an Chris Bell both played 16. Freeman played center most of the time when he was in there and he looked like a center although he only had 3 rebounds 1 block. But he also had a steal and an assist and scored 11 points. He was 7 for 8 from the line, excellent for a big man. Bell hit five threes and had 3 rebounds and 3 assists. JJ Starling and Naheem McCloud played 14 minutes each. Starling got a quiet 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. (Isn't everything he does quiet?) Naheem had 9 points and 7 rebounds, a block and a steal. I'm not sure which one this was but on one play he was just holding his arms up and the shooter hit him in the hands. Eddie Lampkin took the night off, playing only 5 minutes. Red was asked if he was hurt. He smiled and said "He's fine." Only Red knows what he got out of this.
