Anyone else catch this?

"In addition, the above framework does not apply to events held at the Syracuse University Stadium, where masking and other COVID prevention policies will be prescribed based on local and state public health orders."

That was done quietly.

You most likely know it as the Stadium, but it’ll always be the Dome to me.

Fascinating. The no name "stadium" makes another appearance in August. I thought all of this was put to bed months ago when Wildhack blew smoke up our butt and declared "the name Carrier is still on the Dome."

It can't be blowing smoke if it us true...and it is. the name is on on the building. Do you really thing he will put the universily in legal risk but declaring "It is no longer the Carrier Dome and we will never call it that again in perpetuity! "

Dude grab more coffee, I wasn't posting about Covid Protocols, I was posting about the dome being called Syracuse University Stadium and no that was not covered in the 10 page fight over vax/masking.
Sorry for the mix up.

It's a loophole. Cuse (and their lawyers) are playing hardball.

They cannot remove the (name redacted) signage.

But - they can choose to never speak of/reference the former name of the Stadium ever again.
Which is what they are now doing.

Why would they give (name redacted) one iota more marketing pub than they have to?

So now, the (name redacted) Corporation has some decisions to make:
Will they allow Syracuse to buy them out, so another naming rights deal based on current market values replaces it?
Or - will they pay up to retain the naming rights deal, complete with actually getting their name mentioned.

Carrier is in the driver's seat. They can do nothing and like it. The university has no incentive to buy it out for what it is actually worth... it has to be at a deep discount so they can make money with a new name. And Carrier has no financial incentive to sell for less than it is worth.

The only way it happens is if someone at "Carrier" just says screw it... we will allow SU to rename it.

Yes, they are.

They have gotten immense benefit from the naming gift (I wanna say $3 mil?) they gave 40 years ago.

They get a LOT less benefit now, if their name never gets mentioned on TV or in the press moving forward.
Which is exactly what is happening.

So - maybe Syracuse offers them something like $15 or $30 million, or whatever the guys in the suits deem to be fair market value to buy out that name.
That is WAAAAAY more than just inflation-adjusted return of that $.
(and again - (name redacted) got a TON of pub for 4 decades due to that deal, for which you can be sure the suits will determine a value, as part of their return on investment)

Syracuse then signs a new deal for double whatever that amount was, which is NOT for eternity, so it can (and will) be revisited in a decade, or however long the initial deal runs for.

So yeah, it'll be a step back for Syracuse in the short term, until they break even on the ongoing new revenue from the new naming rights deal.
After which, it's all gravy*.

The charity game with Coleman, Owens, etc is advertised as taking place at THE STADIUM.

Yet our unis are apparently provided to the “Carrier Dome” & not “Syracuse Football”. The plot thickens...

Nike is the SU football uniform “provider”, so I imagine Cintas provides uniforms to Dome employees. Clever promotion.

Will Wildhack put pressure on the Newhouse alums to stop using the @&$*%( Dome name.
