Pretty much invariably, the dolts popping off about our inclusion and seed are clinging to the RPI and "last 10" factors as some kind of proof. Of course, most of these dolts are of the "hey I tune into March madness every year so that proves I'm a college hoops aficionado" variety. Um, maybe you ought to take a few minutes and learn how teams are selected in 2016.
Sheer, utter ignorance. And it's delicious. :)

Sounds like quite a few on this board last week.

That was awesome stuff you put out there yesterday...especially the list of bubble teams going into the show...

I went back to '07.

Our RPI was 46. Our record vs the Top 50 was 3-6 and against the top 100 (51-100) was 6-2.

That compares to 73; 5-6 and 3-4 this year.

That is why I didn't think they were getting in...

As for the commentators, they all cherry-pick the stats they want to use.

I caught the first few minutes of Boomer and Carton this AM as I was driving to work and Carton was talking about the fact that the committee used Boeheim's absence as a primary reason for putting us in.

Infact, Castiglione said the exact opposite - that it was the top 50 Neutral court and road wins that were the driver and that Boeheim's absence really played no role.

Boomer, of course, simply picked up what Carton said as an excuse for putting Monmouth in and leaving us out...

Didn't even get 20 wins...Oh Lord

But very little criticism about the 6 at large teams seeded LOWER than us. Nothing to see here. Move along...

you dude. You watch like five minutes of CBB before March.

That is still 5 more minutes than Barkley watches...

Thank God for that leaked bracket yesterday so I could switch back over the Denver-ND lacrosse game on EPSNU...

I may not like guys like Gottlieb and Dakich but at least they clearly watch a ton of college ball. it was equally clear that Barkley watches zero college ball and it was painful to listen to...

The worst is listening to clowns like Mike Greenberg, taking a break from Mike and Mike's year long NFL slobfest to talk about how Monmouth should've gotten in over us.

I'm surprised he didn't vouge for LSU to be in. The only CBB he's spoke to all year was Ben Simmons.

And you also have to remember, many of the actual college hoops guys (not bracket nerds) had us in the tournament:
Bilas, Davis, Katz, Greenburg, Williams, Mandel.
So this wasn't just about computers and metrics, either.

I have no idea why they continue to roll out their NBA guys to cover MM.

I could be totally wrong, but I get the feeling Seth and Jay Williams weren't really spending too much time going deep into the resumes. The other guys I can see though.

That's a complete gut call on my part.

If Monmouth was in the ACC they would have battling BC for the most losses in our conference.
Not only that, most of these pundits think all losses are the same. If you look at the games we've been losing -- not only have we been playing very good teams, we've been competitive. Here, JB has a point. Take a look at -State's game at home when Virginia came calling (win by 7). -State beat us by five in Tallahassy. UNC's been crushing people, and they beat us by 5 in Chapel Hill (and it was closer than that).

Don't get me wrong, we still have problems on the front line. But we've been very competitive in the ACC despite a .500 record. So I don't think making the tourney is a scandal by any means.

Monmouth beats Georgetown = Good win!

Syracuse loses to Georgetown = You suck!
That's just it, they love to have something to bellyache about. Take anything they can and milk it into some kind of dramatic presentation.

so, um... what about your wisdom, prior to yesterday, regarding our tournament chances? ;)
Touche! Pearl. but comeon... I egg these kids on as loud and long as anybody in here. I was just prepping myself for what I thought might be a mighty emotional blow.

In retrospect... I shoulda believed! I stand corrected and I'll take my whippin!

you know I respect the heck out of ya - just giving you a hard time :)
It's all cool! I just think that when I make a mistake... it's best to own it rather than getting all up in arms about it. I definitely should have been more positive about the whole thing. These kids never gave up during the season or during any game and the least I can do is be positive while I'm just sitting on my a$$ and pontificating like a little spoiled kid banging my spoon on my empty cereal bowl!

Bilas made the point that if teams like Cuse were in Monmouths conference their numbers would look like Monmouths or better (and vice Versa)

I'll tell you what though...we better win Friday to shut these people up

My wife drove me to work today. As we were driving, I told her I'd listen to Mike and Mike up until one of them brought up the NFL. I turn on the radio and Golic is mentioning that today 3/14 is National Pie Day. Without hesitation, Greenberg says, "you know what else today is? It's the 10 year anniversary of the Saints signing Drew Brees." My wife looked at me, I said, "see how much they need to stretch to get the NFL mentioned on Selection Monday?" Off went the radio.

Greeny is pissed that his school Northwestern has NEVER made it into the NCAA Tournament.

Well said!!! I think many of us made the same mistake. This has been a competitive team in nearly every game this year and is very capable on a given day to take out a highly rated team. Just read an article about the Mid West Region and nary a word was said about Syracuse or a single Orange player. It is all there for the taking. No one expects Syracuse to go far. Lets surprise a few folks.
