On the field if we have one mediocre and two bad seasons, the on the field component will be failing. And by bad I mean that we look bad on O again this year with 4 or less wins. If you aren't getting it done on the field you better be getting it done on the recruiting trail. If we are pulling in mid level ACC classes then that can negate on the field failures. However if we are bringing in bottom of the ACC classes, what would make an AD think things will change? In that case the coaching wouldn't be getting current lower level talent into a Bowl. Why would future classes with lower level talent change things?

It isn't just wins and losses. The program needs to be going in the right direction on the field and/or off the field. If we have a bad O again this year, we are not going in the right direction. If we have a bottom of the ACC recruiting class, we are not going in the right direction. I would be fine giving Shafer through 2017 even if we go 2-10 this year. But the O has to show vast improvement and we need to have a lower mid ACC recruiting class.
