LARRY GRANTHAM (September 16, 1938 – June 17, 2017) 6-0 210 linebacker
I remember Larry as being, (even for that era), an under-sized linebacker at 6-1 210. Yet hit card came out every year for 13 years in a row saying “Larry Grantham Linebacker- New York Jets”. Except the first three of them said New York Titans. “Grantham's team, with him as a starter throughout, went from being the worst team in an upstart league (the AFL) to World Champions in just nine years. ”He was a 5 time All-star and was named to the all-time AFL second team. “The Professional Football Researchers Association named Grantham to the PRFA Hall of Very Good”. He played in 175 games for the Titans/Jets, intercepted 24 passes and scored three times- one on a pick six, one on a fumble and one “other” (?): Larry Grantham Stats | Pro-Football-Reference.com (probably a blocked kick). But he wasn’t done playing football- at age 36 he showed up in the uniform of the Florida Blazers of the World Football league. It just didn’t look right after all those cards in a Jets uniform.

Larry Grantham, Al Atkinson and Ralph Baker were the heart and soul of the Jets Super Bowl D, if somewhat underappreciated.
