Things that can score higher than a 4 on the Wonderlic

I'm not sure why players even agree to take this test at this point. It can do nothing but hurt your stock since scoring a 20+ certainly doesn't make any headlines.

Looking at the sample questions, you'd think that scoring below a 45 would be difficult.

What they don't tell you is often a lot of these kids have learning disabilities.

But even with learning disabilities a person can score higher than a 4 just by chance.

While the NFL doesn't always use that test to determine whether they draft a kid high or not, the NCAA should be looking at some of those players/schools and ask themselves how they even got to junior year status.

Social promotion and the fact the kid can play football. How would you like to be in class at LSU and have that guy sitting next to you. Of course we are talking LSU the bastion of academic excellence as seen here.

Sure they can. Just like they can bomb it just by chance.

Depending on what doctor you ask, ~50% of kids have learning disabilities. :noidea:

It's easy to generalize and make fun of kids for scoring low on a pointless NFL test. What if Philip Thomas bombed it?

You pretty much nailed it with "pointless". Read my initial response in the thread. Eventually kids will just stop taking the test.

You are forgetting he attended college for three years and scored a 4 on the test. The issue is how could he gain entrance to a major university and stay eligible if he does not have basic comprehension ability? Put it this way Vince "fricking" Young is twice as smart as this guy (8 vs 4).

He probably passed the test because he had a tutor or some help, like he probably had at LSU. If he had a LD, maybe the college entrance exam wasn't timed.

Point is - no one knows the kid's situation. Easy for us to make fun. I've worked with kids that have LDs.

But if he did not play football would he have the opportunities he has been given? The average kid would have been directed to trade school a long time ago.

Who knows? Trade school or not, still not funny to poke fun at a kid who has a disability.

McNabb reportedly scored something like an eleven.

14 not exactly stellar. The test just isn't that hard and there is no reason to have such a low score. If you have a learning disability I would think you should be asking for some type of accomodating I doubt they would refuse it.

Why? He isn't applying for grad school...his tutor won't be out on the field and in the huddle with him.

Oh Lord

if the median kid has a learning disability, what is the standard for ability? martians? (disagreeing with the doctors, not you)

way OT but part of the reason we spend so much in schools is because parents hate admitting that their kid isn't smart so they conjure up a million bs reasons why they're bad at taking tests, all of which cost money in time and resources.

we need a board wonderlic contest

Spot on. Parents don't want to parent so if their kids have trouble it must be a "learning disability" and he should be on ritalin ASAP. That's just the way it works, it's not even the kids fault that they are labeled that way and I'm sure they'd rather not be.

Way OT but it's just the way our society is trending. 30-40% of people collecting disability have "learning disabilities" because they don't feel like working. If they're smart enough to play the system, they're smart enough to work but it's not really their fault the loop holes in the system are massive.
