How many times in it's history has the SU football team averaged 30 points per game, (I"m including bowl games)? It's a short list.

1904: We scored 405 points in 9 games, an average of 45.0 points per game. We beat Manhattan that year 144-0, the only time we've ever hit the century mark. The rest of the year we scored  261 points in eight games, which is still 32.6 but that includes 69-0 over Clarkson, 52-4 over Niagara and 69-0 over Allegheny. Against Colgate, Yale and Army, the only big-time schools we played that year, we were 0-3 and got out-scored 14-49.

1916: We scored 275 points  in nine games, 30.6. Our opening three games were against something called "All-Syracuse", Ohio U. &. and Franklin & Marshall, whom we out-scored by a combined 190-0. The rest of the schedule we were 2-4 and scored 85 points.

So those don't really count and the rest are fairly predictable:

1959: We scored 413 points in 11 games = 37.5
1987: We scored 379 points in 12 games = 31.6
1995: We scored 375 points in 12 games = 31.3
1996: We scored 437 points in 12 games = 36.4
1997: We scored 441 points in 13 games = 33.9
1998: We scored 478 points in 12 games = 39.8
2012: We scored 390 points in 13 games = 30.0
(We just made it with the 38-14 bowl win over the Mountaineers.)

So, in a real sense, we've  had seven teams in our history who scored enough to consistently beat average teams in 2014.
