I pay for 10 season tickets for the family. Except for a few college years, family season ticket holders since 1959 starting with my dad. From my youth until now, I have seen Ben, Frank, Dick, Paul, GRob, Doug, Scott, Dino, and Fran have some ups and downs. (Those of us of a certain age remember the "Sack Mac Pack". Under the heading of perfect time, this was just a bit before 11-0.) I have felt bad Ben's time had run. I think Frank was underrated. Dick was a legend and shouldn't have taken the Pats job. Paul, perhaps somewhat like Fran, was stubborn, but he got a raw deal at the end. Erob? I'm still in therapy. Doug taught me that a "dream job" sometime just means "I'm gone when I wake up." Scott? Some people make better coordinators then head coaches - liked him until his peevishness at Middle Tennessee. Dino? "Orange is the new fast" at least until you completely abandon that offensive philosophy. And now Fran - what to make of him. Last year went perfectly. Home run quarterback pick up who didn't get hurt. Excellent players who were underused at their SEC schools came over. Everyone thinks we have a genius hire. This year, harder schedule and we start 3-1 with a win at Clemson. Then, we all know the rest. There is no way we aren't at least 7-5 this year if Angelli doesn't get hurt and going to a bowl. Everyone would be happy and yelling for an extension. Instead, we are doing crazy talk about buyouts. Jesus, even GRob got four years! Fran is no fool. He knew he had nothing at QB after seeing Ricky as QB 1. That was obvious when he picked up Angelli. After Angelli was hurt, it was shown that he was right. I don't think Kyle Shanahan or Christ himself could have made our offense functional with who we had. As for ERob, I'll give him injuries, the reality of SMU/Texas money, and graduation, but it has been hard to watch. Easy fix is to make him "Associate Head Coach" (sort of like a bank vice-president) who focuses on defensive line and recruiting - win/win. I agree next year is big and we have to see if he holds his recruiting class together along with finding some more depth and a competent back-up QB, but I ain't going nowhere and I suspect Fran isn't either. I think Fran will learn and make course corrections. If I'm wrong, it won't be the first time. Our family crest translates from Latin to English as "Often wrong. Seldom in doubt." I remain optimistic about 2026. Now, as for the basketball program ....
