For obvious reasons, this bye week could not come at a better time. We've just ran through a brutal gauntlet and came out at 4-4 with bowl hopes alive and well. Our players are dinged up and need the extra rest.
Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting... yes, it's the quiet period, but I'm sure our staff will be active as hell. Staff recruiting meetings, in-house ranking boards, prioritizing their final stretch, etc. I'm really, really thinking (and hopeful) that we finish this class out with a bang and come close to a Top 30 class.
Giving the starters rest allows the freshmen, 2nd and 3rd stringers lots of reps in practice. Everyone knows that this is a complicated system, so no other better way to learn it than to actually practice it. This is huge and should not be overlooked. The staff is constantly evaluating what they already have in the cupboard, so they can make their final moves to class out this recruiting class.
Staff will get an extra week in the film room with each other and with their respective units. There's always something to improve on and they will focus on what has worked and what needs work. The offense will continue to focus on their timing, their assignments and will likely install a few new wrinkles before Florida State. Speaking of which, there will be a boatload of film review of FSU. I don't want to say more than usual, but it likely will be. Regardless of FSU's struggles this year, it's still a huge potential win from a recruiting and fan perspective.
Getting healthy is the biggest thing. Dungey must look like he has shingles. Kid has taken an absolute beating, body has to be black and blue. I'm worried about his throwing hand. Looked like he had just put through a meatgrinder. Ishmael hurt his hip against Miami, so this extra week allows him more time getting treatments. Hopefully we see the return of Cordy and a few others. Hot tubs, cold baths, then hot tubs, cold baths, electrotherapy, massages, etc. We will be fresh for Florida State. Book it.
Keep them focused, Dino. No doubt you guys will.
