but I hope the changes on staff are not indicating that Syracuse.com wants to cater to it's "readership" regarding its coverage of the football program.

Would they slant negative to drive hits?

You mean like they've been doing with the SU FB and BB Forums for the past decade? Wouldn't surprise me at all. Another reason to stop going to that place.

I literally can not read the comments anymore. It usually starts off with "they are terrible, get some real players, get a real coach, i live in my parent's basement and am a fan of nothing other than the yankees, the patriots, and the lakers". What a cesspool syracuse.com has become. Without Dave there would no reason to even check the site unless Waters writes something about b-ball.

I think you give them too much credit.

My guess is that their plan is to replace decently-paid, long-time journalists with cheap young bloggers.

I can't imagine anyone would make a long term decision like that. I've seen several of the comments there. It doesn't seem all that smart for any type of media publication to cater to people who can barely tie their shoes. Plus Marrone would rightfully shut them out, completely. They can write all the OpEds they want, but with no access, no one will pay attention.

I think you have it nailed. The sad thing is that the details about the game, the who, what, how and when stuff, are readily available immediately afterwards. That is what the P-S has hung their hat on for years and it is largely irrelevant to most people these days. If you want to save money, drop that.

The thing that made the PS site of interest for SU football fans was the pregame analysis and especially the post game analysis. That stuff is not on ESPN, or CNN, or SNY, or YNN or anywhere else. The only unique and valuable content they have for SU football is Rahme's stuff and instead of focusing on it and expanding it, they do this instead.

Even if the people that run the paper are all dolts, you would think they would at least be smart enough to do some independent polling of the users who visit the site to see what people find valuable. Heck, if they spent 5 minutes reading this board a couple of times, they would have known their plans were awful.

It is too bad. The whole syracuse.com web site might be gone in a couple of years if they keep this kind of decision making going.

They're gonna hire FloridaSteve?
