I'm not sure I have anything worthwhile to contribute. Other than the last five minutes of the Michigan State game I've never seen MTSU play. If you just go by the numbers (which I never recommend) Syracuse is in great shape. We are playing the worst team in the second round, and its a team that is not particularly well suited to exploit any of our weaknesses. We are one of the best in the nation at covering the 3 and we are weak inside, MTSU specializes in shooting 3's and is not great down low . They are tailor made for us. Teams who pull off big first round upsets are statistically unlikely to follow it up (only one 15 seed has ever made it to the sweet 16 and that was Florida Gulf Coast who was matched up with two teams who historically do poorly in the tournament, Georgetown and San Diego St). A little edit here. The last thing I would add is that I have not been a big believer in Michigan St. all year long. They shoot well and hustle but they are not athletic and don't play defense. I don't think they were the juggernaut they were made out to be. MTSU won because they got a lot of open threes and made almost 60% of them. I'd be a lot more worried if they won shooting 40% from three. 40% is duplicate-able. 60% really isnt (especially against Syracuse who held teams to 30% from three for the year). We are all well aware of the fact that this Syracuse team is capable of losing to anybody, but if I was a betting man I'd bet on Syracuse to win and cover the spread. Am I the only person who thinks Tyler Roberson is our most important player? He really is the only guy we have who is capable of doing the dirty work, and when he plays poorly and sits on the bench for long stretches we suffer because nobody else can bring what he does to the table. I would guess that Syracuse has a very good record when Roberson gets 10 or more rebounds and a poor record when he is under 8 rebounds. I think Roberson getting 10 rebounds might be even more important than our three point percentage.
