Here is a list of the top 20 Small Forwards in CBB being named to the Julius Erving award list.

Without looking, how many can you name, or if you look at the list, how many of their colleges can you name.

The continuity becomes worse every season. Hard to remain avid fans when you don't know the players without a scorecard.

But, it does give schools like Syracuse a punches chance to be a contender.

I’m not sure the thread title is accurate though.

Funny enough, I’ve watched less NBA the last 2 years than I have ever before. Part of it is because I just never had a true diehard nba team. I watch the playoffs and appreciate the skill of the players, because there aren’t better ones out there, but I largely don’t care.

Yeah you don’t associate diehard fans with NBA teams in general

Yeah I’d say that’s fair but I have friends that do love the Knicks. I guess there are teams I root for mainly bc of individual players.

If I can watch guys like Curry, Jokic, Giannis, now Wemby, to name a few, I’ll tune in sometimes on prime time games.

So, by watching less NBA, have you watched more CBB, or something else instead. Pickleball? Hockey? Netflix? Hallmark?

I think people that live in NBA cities might disagree. Lots of NBA teams sell out, or nearly sell out on a regular basis with tickets prices being outrageous.

That’s fair maybe it’s better to say it’s much more localized to your example than many other sports in terms of diehards.

I watch almost no NBA. Maybe Game 7 of the Finals last 5 minutes if it's close. I stopped caring about the NBA when the Nats left town in 1963. We found out on the 11pm local news one night (probably channel 3). I cried when I heard it. It was devastating (although inevitable). In those days few followed SU basketball. It was about the same time the SU BB team set an NCAA record for the most consecutive losses. (I've been around for awhile.)

It's crazy. 20 years ago, I used to get colleget basketball magazines and read them all the time. I knew the top 100, where most of them were going, and studied teams' rosters via the magazine. Combine that with all of the college hoops I watch, and I felt pretty knowledgeable.

These days, it is nearly impossible to keep up, with the transfer portal and teams turning over seemingly every year.

The only name i recognize is Dybansa. Yeah, that's sad. I don't know, though, if the reason is because of a decline in the NCAA quality of product, or if it's the decline in SU's product that led to me not watching any CBB other than our games. I imagine it's both, plus the early entries.

It's very telling, though, that i don't even know who plays for Duke, and those recruits always used to be on my radar, for some reason or another, maybe because we (thought we) were competing for them.

Tell that to Knicks fans. They still sell out the Garden every night, despite not winning a title in FIFTY-TWO YEARS. They haven't even made the Finals for 26 years. Those are die-hard fans.
I think that's semi-true. On the other hand, MSG is in the middle of a city with 8.5 million people. All within ten miles. That's not true of other arenas. I used to walk to MSG. It was easy. Anywhere else, i'd be driving 45 minutes, and then paying a fortune to park...

I recognized 7 of the names on the list. I support players making money, but agree this no rules transfer portal stuff does make it harder to keep track and truly get into the regular season as much. I still watch, but not as much as I used to. However, March Madness is still awesome. I try to catch every game of the tournament.

As far as the NBA, I know a lot of people like it. But I just can’t get into it. Especially the regular season. They play 82 games and only eliminate 1/3 of the teams from playoff contention…? The regular season means nothing. Also, this may be an “old man yells at cloud” take, but stuff like the Giannis travel not being called the other day is infuriating to me.

But wait all the new age young fans said paying the players was great and good for the game!!! Why even have rules anymore if the new thing nowadays is to only think about ones self instead of team or others. I agree the old system needed fixing but paying players and having guys transfer to 3 to 4 schools and play ME first basketball instead of what basketball is all about which is TEAM basketball has done nothing but ruin college sports.

AJ (he's been covered forever), Sarr (since he has the older brother), Peja's kid (because he's Peja's kid) and Ament (the late riser).

The NBA's talent level is insane. They have an alien in Wemby. The top five guys are insane in whatever order you want to put them: Jokic, Wemby, Luka, SGA and Giannis. Still have old guard guys like Bron, KD and Steph hanging around. Ant is super fun.

But the overall depth of talent in the NBA is crazy. The continuous influx of international players has extended the talent pool and if you look at the top 50 guys now versus like the early 2000s or many other years, it's crazy. Prob since the early 90s has it been this loaded.

I'll always root for Syracuse. I love the tourney. But the dudes in college coming out of AAU that are also changing teams frequently just doesn't do it for me. Even if there is wet clay in terms of talent, the product on the floor is rough most nights, imo.

BTW, anyone looking for an NBA rookie to follow, check out VJ. Dude is a baller.

VJ and Maxsey are playing Embid into a role player. They don't need him. Paul George better be ready or he's going to get marginalized too when he comes back.
