That happened to me once.
You come back to work, and everything you own is boxed up.
A couple of family photos, and a Swingline stapler.
That happened to me once.
Poor reflection, though, on Syracuse and its sports programs. But as you pointed out, SU is a little fish compared to the B10 and SEC. Another sign of a dwindling market. It’ll be tough to keep Fran. Syracuse just isn’t very attractive if you want a big time atmosphere. Small stadium, minor league tailgating and media market.Feel for Brian but the demand just isn't there locally. The days of big time local sports radio is over for the most part save for the B10 and SEC mid level and above college towns/locations. Again not a shot at Brian but Syracuse especially is a tough listen as most of the callers are so uninformed it's laughable. You'll get more spending 20 mins on syracusefan a day then 5 hours of local sports talk radio.
Personally, I didn’t think now would be the time to lose a media person. Like it’s not like interest is that low for the programs, especially football. Also, we are really only 4,000 short probably to selling out the dome. Like it’s not like we expand the dome. Also, a little much for this take right now on keeping Fran. He just landed a 5 star wide receiver from Miami while at Syracuse 3 days ago. If he can cook here and we can keep up, why can’t this be a long term success sort of deal.Poor reflection, though, on Syracuse and its sports programs. There’s call in shows on YouTube or other services you can stream in your car. It’s like vinyl vs tapes vs cd, etc.I know the business has moved to more podcasts, etc. but they’re just not my thing… maybe it’s an age/nostalgia thing as I remember doing it as a kid… but there’s something about hopping in the car after a game and listening to a call-in show immediately after a game.
Brian’s show was great, but loved him on postgame as well.
Agree, you’d think interest would be up now with the football success. But number crunchers don’t pay attention to that. Sure, Fran has found success here, both as a recruiter and coach, but it’s going to be a challenge to hold onto to him unless he just simply loves Syracuse. If he’s eyeing more money and national titles, we’ve got work to do.Personally, I didn’t think now would be the time to lose a media person. I once got laid off the Friday I was leaving for vacation. Took a red eye that night and was told I shouldn’t bother hurrying back.He was let go the day he got back from vacation.
Agreed but the loss of the great SWC is going to be felt this upcoming season and beyondHonestly this forum is one of the reasons I don't really listen to the local guys. I already have all the information from you lovely people!
This forum is fine — although. I’m here much less than I was years ago — but a talk show is a different medium that promotes SU sports. We can say it’s a sign of the times, but it’s still a loss. This forum isn’t an alternative.Yiu can’t listen to this in the car or at home.Honestly this forum is one of the reasons I don't really listen to the local guys. A good portion of the information here is also pulled from theirs (and others) shows. Sure, there are the 'insider' types... But Fran going on ESPN Syracuse and talking about Trebor Pena, or injury news, etc. will be missed. A good portion of that stuff comes from their shows. This forum is fine — although. That's a classy move (said in Mike Damone voice from Ridgemont High)He was let go the day he got back from vacation.

Thanks. I can readHe was let go the day he got back from vacation.
"Replace him with a young, ambitious Newhouse grad who will work 3 years for a lot less, get plenty of tape, and then move on to a bigger market."sounds like a cost-cutting. Brian is a veteran and been around the block and probably was paid as such. Replace him with a young, ambitious Newhouse grad who will work 3 years for a lot less, get plenty of tape, and then move on to a bigger market. It's the way of the world in smaller, mid-size media markets. Axe, on the other hand, was canned because he was too critical of Boeheim. Axe was only saying everything the fans were saying. Galaxy Media is very much state-run media when it comes to coverage of Cuse sports. Even if Axe was not fired for criticizing Boeheim, he was not long for the job either, as he probably made too much $ for Galaxy's Ed Levine's liking. The Boeheim criticism was just a convenient excuse to fire him then.
Has it been announced that Leonard is taking over the 5-7 p.m. show?.

That is pretty much what they've been doing with Tim Leonard. I'd much rather hear Higgins.
No. I hope not.Has it been announced that Leonard is taking over the 5-7 p.m. show?
