Fran Brown isnt going to Penn State. He isn’t going anywhere. But he does have to regain the trust of the fsnbase.

Rickie Collins isn’t the answer.. He never will be. But we need to develop a credible backup QB..We also can’t expect Angeli to remain healthy for an entire season, so Carney needs more of a look and we need to explore the transfer portal.

The running game is woefully inept..Part of the blame may go to the offensive line, but our two backs are not getting it done..Expected much more from Willis..Anothsr area that needs to explore the portal.

Defense wasn’t to blame., It stepped up. And to be honest, the defense was serviceable enough in that previous 2 games if we had shown any semblance of offense..

The punt to end the half was a wildly bad decision, and Broen owned up to it. He’s still growing as a coach.

The goal now is to win our 2 remaining home games, develop our younger players and QBs and restore pride in the program.

The run game strikes me as a problem with the strategy & playcalling. No variety. Everything predictable, slow developing, & straight up the gut, into our weakness.

Get something going wide & outside. Get some misdirection in there.

As to Yaz, I agree with some that him always seeking to hit someone is a weakness. He gives up additionall yardage just to deliver a blow.

Opponents know they can stack 8 in the box now with our QB options.

Opponents know they can rush extra guys without consequence because their blitzes will likely get home.

Opponents know they can take a risk because even if our WRs get open, we don't have a QB that can get them the ball downfield.

It's less of a personnel problem at RB, and much more of a personnel problem at QB, OL, and TE. The lack of discipline is back. The stupid mistakes are back. We've blown a great chance at 6 wins and a bowl.

The silver lining is we can use the Angeli injury as an excuse with recruits, but there will probably be a few kids that decide to go elsewhere.

Fran seems to be about developing the young guys this year but is insistent of playing a “young” (as he calls him) QB who won’t be here next year.

Can’t get a QB2 in the portal. We need to develop what we got or get a HS kid.

One of our biggest complaints about Dino’s run game was running up the middle. Again and again and again.

And we are getting gashed on defense on runs to the outside. It’s like running to the outside is our great weakness was across the board.

Willis blaming his dropped pass on fog on his visor was so weak. Catch the ball.

Agreed. He was clearly frustrated and lost focus. Frustration from getting curb-stomped repeatedly on run attempts. We were in the 3rd qtr with a whopping total of 14 rushing yards as a team and Carney came in and got our biggest run of the game with a 7-yd QB scramble-and-go. Sobering that is.

Willis should have been frustrated as the running plays Nixon was doling out were way to predictable (past game film repeats) and our inability throw with any consistency meant a stacked box... and our questionable O-line with our starting center injured on the first play, meant our running plan was easily schemed and we were simply overmatched.

Good post but the defense was hideous not serviceable against Duke.
My thinking is that if the offense is hitting on all cylinders against Duke, there would have been less pressure on the defense and we might have won a game in the 30s. I thought we needed 35 points to beat Pitt, but it’s clear Collins isn’t capable of putting up those kind of numbers.

Willis was pretty quick to get upset with Rickie during SMU. Rickie should have gyrated in frustration over Willis trying to catch the ball like he had feet for hands. He has had other drops this year too.

Will be interesting to see if Dale Williams returns for another season. OL has been underwhelming for two seasons.

Restore pride..get real..10 3 ranked in the top 20..excellent recruiting class ...ok we lost our QB which has caused the running game to dry up because they are stacking the box ..every team at every level loses the QB will be bad...relax

I don't think Fran needs to "regain" trust of the fan base. That sounds ridiculous to me. Are most Syracuse fans saying they don't trust Fran Brown? Obnoxious if true

The game was not lost because of Ricky. How about the offensive line creating some lanes to run through? Do you think that affects the outcome of the game? When you can't run the ball?

How about the offensive line just LOVING to hold and false start? Is that on Ricky? How many times in a row does the line have to do it (ahem, Betrand) before Ricky is not to blame?

How about Special Teams? Does Ricky play special teams? Special teams gave up a ridiculous touchdown just before half where the returner was virtually untouched

How about Willis catch a ball that was right on his hands?

Yes. Ricky threw 3 interceptions. Yup. He did. The first one was the most infuriating and I wanted him out of the game right then and there. But Ricky settled down. One of the other 2 interceptions "he threw" went right into the hands of Gill and popped off his chest. Is that on Ricky? Come on. Watch it again

Everybody. Watch the dang game again

Our first quarters this year:

Tennessee 0-17
UConn 0-0
Colgate 14-3
Clemson 10-7
Duke 3-10
SMU 0-3
Pitt 7-7
_________
20 points in 1st quarter against FBS opponents-- 3.3 per game. 1/2 of that was Clemson.

Second quarters:

Outscored 80-37 against FBS.

Third quarters:

Outscored 20-16... although Colgate also outscored us 14-7.

Defense seems to tighten up after halftime. Also seems like every game we get the ball first, so that is more possessions for our opponents. Interesting.

Fourth quarters:

Outscoring FBS opponents 47-41. Some of this is Tennessee, Duke, and SMU (and perhaps even Pitt and even UConn)... taking the foot of the gas up by comfortable margins. UConn thought they had a comfortable margin. Pitt got pretty close to that point also.

Other Analysis:

We have outscored our opponent in only 6 of 25 quarters (including the OT against UConn as a quarter) against FBS opponents (and 3 of 4 against Colgate). We could have tied Tennessee with 2 XPs in 2 quarters, otherwise we have been tied in 4 quarters. Still, that is 19 quarters (76%) where we are outscored or tied.

Even with Angeli, we failed to outscore our opponent in the first 7 quarters. We then went on a streak of outscoring UConn/Clemson 5 straight quarters (Q4, UConn; OT, UConn; Q1, Clemson; Q2, Clemson; and Q3, Clemson). One each of Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4/OT. Since then, we have only outscored our opponents in 1 of 13 quarters, with that being garbage time Q4 against SMU. Even with the PT return from Pitt, we were still outscored in that 2nd quarter 3-0. We are not just losing games, we are losing the majority of quarters. Other than Clemson, we start slow and then get worse in Q2.

I agree. If DeLeone had guys this big, he could make it work. Or Marrone, for that matter.
A couple great offensive line coaches.

He settled down? He was 50% and had what 100 yards before the end?

Edit

He had 75 yards passing after the first INT and before our 4th Q TD drive.

Agree. The problem may be Williams, but I have to say overrating the OL is an annual board tradition. God knows I've been wrong about many things, but you'd think we were putting OL in the NFL like Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Iowa with the way the line is talked about each preseason.

Fran brought in a ton of OL bodies in the portal for a reason. Unfortunately, like pretty much every portal guy not named Angeli, the bodies have done little to nothing
