I can't imagine any true fan of the program rooting for Autry to fail, etc., as if he does, that means SU has failed, continuing its downward trajectory the program seemingly has embedded itself in.  Adrian was also one of my favorite players.  His tourney performance against Missouri back in '94 was one of the best performances (IMO) of an SU player in the Dance.

It indeed is a sad state of affairs the program is in and quite unfortunate.  However, IMO, your concerns mentioned in your last paragraph I believe were generally shared rather broadly.  And, although certainly not inevitable, it, let's just say, was more than likely to play out just as it has.

According to what JW stated after hiring Autry, due diligence did occur.  Quote; Wildhack said, Autry has been exposed to every aspect of the sport, and that uniquely prepares him for the job. Whether one believes him, or chooses to simply dismiss it as PR mumble jumble, etc., he said what he said. Moreover, he certainly wasn't forced to pick the choice of words uttered, he voluntarily chose them.  And, along with it, the intent, meaning & integrity in which he implied.
