Record aside, I thought worth noting this team is a fascinating case study in modern basketball roster development. Extreme highs & extreme lows. 4 shooters that can make shots and put up 90+ (Wake, IU) or 50 on an off night (Pitt, Duke). You can see why at times the lineup could perform at a high level, and other times quite the opposite.

Purely from a basketball interest level, SU biases aside, what this team is, and isn't, capable of on a given night piques my interest every game, purely as a fan of the game.

Any teams, SU or not, that have had all or nothing lineups like this that come to mind? General hoops discussion.

Check my last post in the wake post game comments on defensive efficiency numbers for every game this year... a good starting point I think for where you are going..

I don't see this team as simply being hot and cold. I think when we're "cold" it's usually a match up problem. Some teams through style of play and/or athleticism don't give us easy looks and we go "cold." Jay Bilas said during the Kansas/Kentucky game that basketball is all about rhythm. We saw in the Duke game that they didn't give us much early, then when we did get open looks we just weren't comfortable and missed them.

With regard to roster construction, we probably resemble some teams that are decent in lower leagues that make the tournament, get hot for a game and catch a team sleeping in the first round for an upset win, then get bounced in the second.

I think the team of Gillon, White and company was also very interesting. That was a team that I thought could have been really dangerous in the NCAA tourney.

Absolutely. I think there are certain teams this years team would play and we’d be toast 99 out of 100 times. Now could we get hot a beat a couple good teams in a row? yep.
