This used to be one of my favorite

Ugh there was nothing better than Big Monday and SU playing an old foe like Georgetown, Villanova, Connecticut, or Pitt. It's hard to get excited now for a 9PM tip on a Tuesday against Clemson or Georgia Tech. I miss the old Big East almost as much as I miss Syracuse being good.

Sad part is if we can’t turn this around our generation will be the last to remember that cuse used to be something you scheduled your time around.

It's amazing how much Syracuse basketball has changed over the past 10-15 years. I tried to explain to my sister, who is a senior at SU, how awesome basketball used to be, and I felt like I was spinning a tall tale of years gone by. She only went to one game over the past 4 years, and I can't really blame her.

This decline is approaching a point of no return. The University really needs to start trying soon.

It's a 9-12 year drop.

14 and 16 years ago was amazing. Every SU fan loved those years. Boeheim was a genius. The glory days.

We did find ourselves in the Final 4, 10 years ago.

The move to the ACC was necessary but ripped the heart from the program. There were a ton of contributing factors, but that’s the one that I think lines up most closely with the beginning of the end. Every Big East game was a rivalry game, practically. Now, there are like 4 conference schools I care to watch us play.

The olden days in the way back times went something like this:

Fan 1: Oh we’re playing Seton Hall at 8 on a weekday? Do they suck?

Fan 2: They’re Seton Hall; they always suck.

Fan 1: Awesome, let’s go to the Dome and see if we can beat them by 60.

[Attendance for the game in a snowstorm: 25,000]

Fan 2: They’re Seton Hall; they always suck.
initially yes. but p.j. late eighties got them turned around. they lost the national championship game in overtime to michigan. initially UCONN was a gimme . then came calhoun. the old big east was a conference where every team took a run at the top . not just the perennial ACC blue bloods.good coaches. good rivalries. good tv.

I have a 9 year old son and an 11 year old daughter. They have no memories of Syracuse being legitimately good. To them, it sounds like something from around the Civil War or maybe WWI. I am uncertain there’s truly awareness on the hill of just how dire this situation is - regular crowds of @10,000 for conference games in the Dome doesn’t work. That’s the track this is on right now.
