4 x 25=100 hmmmmmmm I thought there was an 85 man limit?

This year there were some schools who signed 33, lots of shuffling? Gray Shirts, early enrollees?

Some ethical coaches feel it's better to sign less than 25 and make offers to walkons than to run some kids off.

Confusing

Anyone completley understand the numbers game?

I don't understand the numbers game, but I think they should implement a strict limit on as far as over signing goes. Maybe possible sanctions or something like that to deter all the gray shirting that's going on. They should at least try to curb some of the unethical things coaches are using to get ahead.

There is an 85 scholarship limit. You can't exceed it. It is for scholarships in concurrent use. There is also a 25 scholarship limit for a given year.

Recruits coming in for the spring semester can count against the previous or next recruiting class. You typically count them against the previous class if there is still room in it, reserving more space for the next class.

Because of the fall out rate for college students, you can consistently take 25 players per class and stay at the 85 player limit. If we get better at identifying players who have talent and are good citizens and good students, the fall out rate drops and we will not be able to take 25 for some classes.

Ethics? Didn't Marrone "run some kids off" the first couple years in a program? A scholarship is a year-to-year contract. I would have no problem with Marrone signing more players given the unknown that happens when managing 85ish 18-23 year olds. Some will flunk out, transfer, fail drug tests, change their mind, etc.

I do not think this is an ethical situation at all. Whether we like it or not, it's a part of the business that is college sports and the student-athlete.
