Just some ideas I've seen on other places to help organize things a bit and make sure we don't have 50 threads discussing the same thing.

1. Separate season long thread for each player. Everyone can post their opinions, criticisms, praises for that player in that thread. This is a big one based on the 10 threads about Cooney we had every single game.

2. General ACC/NCAA game thread. Discuss on going games/happenings there.

With either of these the mods can still feel free to break off a discussion into a new thread if they think it's worth it.

Would love to hear feedback.

I'm on board with grouping game discussions (for non-SU games) into single threads.

For instance, I see numerous threads being started for the games today. I'd prefer to have threads like "Thursday NCAA Games" and "Friday NCAA Games" and so forth. Keeps things more organized and avoids duplicates and clutter.

I would concur with this - it would probably be better to have more organized threads for the games. I think the mods do a good job, so I'm not sure if logistically it's a nightmare, but you do have a whole thread going about one non-Syracuse game, but if there is some drama at the end of that game you suddenly have 4 threads discussing it for a bit popping up a lot.

Individual game threads work fine - like we have a Kansas/NM thread now. Pretty much a lock though if it's tight in the last minute we get at least two more just for that minute of the game.

I've never moderated a board though - no clue how much of a hassle that stuff is.

in a thread view environment, these would be solid ideas. but we are stuck with topic view. so I would vote no.

The recruiting forum looks great, that's how I'd assume the player threads would look like. Wouldn't it look much better to see a Trevor Cooney thread rather than 45 topics with the same heading defending and bashing him? As fun as it is to come on the board when he has a 6-24 shooting game it is annoying to sift through the topics to find a non Cooney thread.

Human nature. Everyone posts first, then looks to see if there was an existing thread later (or not at all.)

Gives me job security. ;)

We (admins/mods) actually combine more threads than you realize (perhaps because it's done so quickly and smoothly). We also delete the start of more duplicate threads than you probably realize.

The single-thread idea works well on the recruiting boards (one thread per recruit) because it is an easy concept to get across to people. Here, the problem frequently pops up because a poster either 1) has not read what's here before posting; or 2) believes a thought is so unique that he/she does not want to see it buried in another thread.

Having said that, I certainly got a bit frustrated every time I saw another "Trevor Cooney" thread this season. Maybe threads about individual players might be a place to start. This may be something for the admins/mods to discuss (once we finish dealing with the issue of naked-women pictures).

no, I don't, because I can tell by who started the thread whether its worth my time to begin with.

and while the recruiting forum "looks" good in the sense that it is relatively clean and organized, it is disastrous from a reading standpoint if you jump in late with dozens of pages of posts to filter through, most of them uninformative, but you have no choice but to scrollscrollscroll through it. I refer to it as that recruiting ghetto and I almost never post there because of the organization.

in the end, I am sure the statists will win again and a central organizing authority will impose sterility and egalitarianism on the board.

bad idea.

we'll end up with the same 20 designated threads taking up the whole screen and we'll have to go into each of them to know if there's something we want to talk about

there will be no useful information on the front page, we'll have to go on fishing expeditions.

specific titles let people breeze on past stuff they don't care about.

I think single threads for games would work better than single threads for players, to begin with. Like mentioned above, for instance, a single thread for all of the NCAA games today, rather than 16 different threads (potentially). Just a general ACC games, or NCAA Friday Games thread, or Other Top 25 Games thread, or what have you.

I dunno, I've seen it work well on other message boards I frequent. Thread view is all but extinct, and for good reason.

it's nearly extinct, true, but not for good reason.

it has its problems, but topic view is much worse

Things are fine the way they are. One problem with the recruiting threads is its hard to know when they are being updated with useful or new information versus off topic back and forth banter. If you have periodic new "zone vs. man to man" threads at least you know there is the potential for a new angle on the topic without having to go searching 30 pages into the season long discussion of the subject.

Oh, this is the WORST,

I understand. But at the same time many of those participating in the banter are responsible for a ton of great Bball info.

I am against individual player threads; given the nature of some posters here, they would degenerate into hater threads. Let the Cooney haters start their own web site altogether.

CLEAR THIS DISORGANIZED CLUTTER!!!! CLEAR IT NOW

4 game threads that will move down as the day goes on. Yes that is this board's problem. For Sakes.

I'm not saying they shouldn't do so, and I participate at times. I'm just saying I wouldn't want to have to page through all threads like that to find new information.
