Captain Tuttle posted a wiki thread what is an assist
just a follow up that, the wiki i wrong,
one note says .
"Passing in a basketball game counts as an assist if the shot taken from the pass is successful. Statistics of assists in basketball are subjective, meaning the scorekeepers will decide whether a pass meets the criteria for an assist or not."
The pass that leads to the basket can get the assist, it doesnt have to be the last pass. If Coleman rebounds a ball and throws 75ft baseball pass to Sherm at the foul line all by himself and he alley oops to Hakim for the dunk , the Assist should go to Coleman as be made the pass that created the basket.
The difference between hockey is that there can be only 1 in Bball but you can still give the guy who made the 2nd pass the assist.
