This year's team currently has 230 made threes on the season. Cooney (68), G (67), Mal (58), Rico (34), Joseph (2), Howard (1). The team is shooting 36.6% with its 230 made 3s coming on 629 attempts.

With just 31 more made threes it will go down as our most prolific three point shooting club since the 3 point shot was adopted. That record, as measured by the most three point baskets made, is currently held by the '05-'06 club which had 260 made threes.

The '05-'06 team's three point shooters were GMAC (103), Dnic (73), Devo (50), Rautins (15), Josh Wright (8), Matt Gorman (5), McCrorskey (4) & Trob (2). The 05-06 team shot 33.9% with its 260 makes coming on 766 attempts.

Interestingly enough that season our opponents actually made one more 3 than we did and shot them at a higher percentage.... 261 made 3s on just 763 attempts for a 34.2%

The 2007-08 teams holds the SU record for having given up the most 3s in a season having given up 302 - 3s that season. Those 302 makes were on 855 attempts for a 35% rate.

Our '86-'87 club was our best 3 point shooting team by percentage shooting 40.3% that season. That also happened to be the first season that the 3 point shot was adopted. The team made 100 shots on 248 attempts. Greg Monroe hit the majority of them recording 79 made 3s.

The highest percentage we've allowed was in the '87-'88 season when we gave them up at a 37.1% clip.

Important note - the 3 point shot distance was quite a bit shorter initially, than it is now.
Easier shot to hit + teams not used to defending it = higher %'s hit.

Who the hell is Rico?

What's even better is that we're 3rd in the league at 37.8% in conference games. So we have only gotten better during the toughest part of our schedule during conference play.

Shooting 36.6% from 3 is like shooting 54.8% from 2, I'll take that percentage for the remaining games. If they could shoot that every game, I wouldn't want them to take a 2-point shot for the rest of the season --- SU is 227th in 2-point shooting at 47.2%.

"it will go down as our most prolific three point shooting club since the 3 point shot was adopted."

Sorry I cannot resist, but as a fan of Mystery Science Theater I would be remiss if I did not ask.

"was there a more prolific three point shooting club before the 3 was adopted? "
