Each year, the Heisman Trust recognizes the winners of 25 and 50 years ago. Syracuse running back Ernie Davis, the 1961 winner, was given the Gold Award posthumously. Miami quarterback Vinny Testaverde, the 1986 winner, was given the Silver Award.

I share Don's fondness for the old split T, but he's very wrong about there being no award winning linemen from those years. Center Jim Ringo is in the HOF and quite a few from the 59 champs went on to play Pro. Roger Davis,Maury Youmans, Al Bemiller, Tom Gilburg and John Brown certainly come to mind.

I agree, this "Sizable Seven" was considered one of the best to have played the game by many.
