For those of you at work and who can't listen to the podcasts there was one of particular interest. Brent Axe interviewed Jon Rothstein. Here are some of the things he had to say about Dion Waiters.



"If GS at 7 lets him slip they will rue the day."


"I would put Dion Waiters right after Davis, Drummond & Royce White. After those three, when you talk about potential & upside DW is right there. I think he will make a jump real quickly in the NBA."


"There will be no adjustment period for him physically in terms of his body. He is ready to go, he has a pro body. The biggest thing I look at when it comes to DW is his ability in a lot of ways to play his best in big situations. When SU played Cincy in the BET he was ridiculous behind the 3pt line. DW strapped on the rest of the Orange to his back and said, follow me I will lead us. 7 of 10 from three, 28 pts in the game. I talked to Mick Cronin after the game & his staff. He said Jon, if there is no Dion Waiters, this is a 20 point game.


The one thing you can tell by watching DW is his game translates. I have used the comparison once, I have used the comparison twice, you better believe I will use it again. If Dion was not at a place like SU and he was at a place where he was the primary guy, not necessarily a piece of the puzzle we would be talking about Dion as the next Dwayne Wade in the NBA, Based on body, based on size, based on all of the elements. I think their games are as close to a spot on match as you can get.


I spoke with JB, its virtually impossible to stay in front of DW if you're guarding him individually. One of the big things that DW will benefit in the NBA is the hand check rule. That will allow more spacing & will allow more opportunities for Dion to break down his man off the bounce. JB said the only possible player who could possibly stay in front of Dion is named Westbrook and plays in Oklahoma City.

Then there is this from a blog by Andrew Sharp, whoever that is:

"Dion Waiters -- Never draft an undersized shooting guard in the lottery unless he has the potential to be like Dwyane Wade or he IS Dwyane Wade. Waiters is neither"
