Two Star Florida CB Davante Davis Verbals to Syracuse (TNIAAM; Cassillo)
Back on April 25, we were excited to welcome our first commitment for the class of 2015, Gerald "Bubba" Robinson out of Florida. And now, less than two weeks later, Syracuse brings in its second commitment from Florida: Cornerback DaVante Davis.
Announced this morning by Rivals and Scout, Davis's commitment makes him the fourth member of the class of 2015, the second cornerback and the second player from Florida. Davis is from Booker T. Washington High School in the Miami area -- a spot where George McDonald (who recruited both Davis and Robinson) has been extremely successful in recent years. Along with the class of 2014, that's now eight players from the state, with plenty more to (hopefully) come.

IMG Academy's Donnie Foster Prepares for Syracuse Football (maxpreps.com; Staff)
Donnie is a preferred walk-on...
Donnie Foster arrived at IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) from Savannah, Ga. in 2013, looking for an opportunity to hone his football skills for his Division I aspirations while maintaining a strong focus on academics. Standing 6-foot-4 at 310-pounds, Foster made an instant impact on the Ascender football squad, starting 10-of-10 games his senior year and paving the way for an offense that racked up 3,554 yards (355.4 ypg) and 317 points (31.7 ppg) on its way to an 8-2 inaugural regular season record. Foster was also named IMG Academy's Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2013 for his exceptional performance in the classroom and on the field.
Today, Foster is working to prepare himself for the transition to Syracuse University where he will play football. Foster chose the Orange because of the tight-knit ‘family' atmosphere he felt among the program, as well as for the University's academic reputation.

Herman Boone Did Not Look Like Denzel
Herman Boone of 'Remember the Titans' in Syracuse to Talk to Boy Scouts (PS; Mink)
Herman Boone, the former coach at T.C. Williams High School in Virginia who helped inspire the film "Remember the Titans," was in Syracuse on Wednesday to speak at the Longhouse Council, Boy Scouts of America's annual Boypower Dinner.
Boone was portrayed by Denzel Washington in the movie, which chronicled the 1971 football team as it dealt with racial integration en route to a state championship.
Boone met with a few reporters for more than 30 minutes Wednesday afternoon and hit on a number of subjects, including his satisfaction level with the number of African-American head coaches in Division I football and the recent incident involving Clippers owner Donald Sterling. Those posts will be available later this week on syracuse.com.

Denzel wasn't the first choice to portray Boone
"Denzel was not offered that movie. A guy by the name of Laurence Fishburnewas offered. Not officially, but it was mentioned to him we'd like for you to play this role. We can't afford the Denzels. Denzel's fee is $12 million. That was a few years ago. The whole budget for the movie "Remember the Titans" was $16 million, but when Denzel read the script by accident having lunch with Jerry Bruckheimer, he said, 'I want this role. No, it doesn't pay me anything. I don't want any money. If you make anything at the end of the movie, throw me a few crumbs.' Man, I would love to be picking up the crumbs that were thrown to him. As of last Mother's Day, this movie has grossed $478,000,000, and do you know where most of the DVDs are sold? Australia. Can you imagine that? There's no such thing as football in Australia. But this movie is not about football. This movie is about how one can learn to celebrate their differences and put your differences aside."

It Appears Hockey Will Be Coming to the Carrier Dome Next Winter
Syracuse Crunch Owner Howard Dolgon Signs Carrier Dome Lease; SU Approval Will Seal Deal (PS; Kramer)
Syracuse Crunch owner Howard Dolgon said Wednesday he has signed the lease that will allow his hockey team to play a game in Syracuse University's Carrier Dome in November.
The last piece needed to finalize the event is the approval from SU. Dolgon said paperwork is in school officials' hands and he doesn't foresee any last-minute snags.
If the current timetable holds, Dolgon said he'd like to announce the details of the game during the last week of May. He's already confirmed that the Utica Comets will be the opponent, and that the action will also include a Utica-Oswego college game and a contest involving the Orange's women's team.
