Joseph Gause Will Play at Milford in Hopes of Winning a D1 Scholarship for Football (D&C; Johnson)

Gause and Young said they plan to attend Milford Academy, a prep school in New Berlin in Chenango County, in order to help their pursuit of Division I football scholarships.
"As long as I do what I need to do, I'll get there,'' Gause said.
Gause, a 17-year old listed at 6-foot-4 1/2 and 205 pounds, caught 61 passes for 1,119 yards, including 15 touchdowns for Bishop Kearney last fall. He also played at defensive end for the Kings during his third varsity season.
"I wasn't getting the interest from the schools that I want,'' Gause said. "(Milford) has coaches who've been there a long time, they know what to do to get you to the next level.''
The list of schools that Gause has his eyes on ranges from Notre Dame and Southeastern Conference member Georgia to Syracuse to Old Dominion University in Virginia, a newcomer to the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Palm Says SU Football Has 12th Toughest Schedule Nationally, Third Among ACC Schools (PS; Mink)
Jerry Palm, a bracketology/bowl expert for CBSSports.com, is highlighting the toughest schedules in the nation because of the significance of strength of schedule in the new College Football Playoff.
Tackling the ACC first, along with Notre Dame, Palm notes Syracuse football has the 12th-toughest schedule nationally in 2014, using the old BCS strength of schedule formula and last year's results.
This jibes with the No. 8 strength of schedule ranking previously written about, which simply takes into account opponents' records from the previous year.

Concern and debate is growing after an I-Team 8 investigation into the safety of football helmets put on children.
I-Team 8 has the exclusive on one proposal that could change how youth football helmets are certified.
As parents and players try to make sense of which football helmet is right, I-Team 8 uncovered politics, money and a partnership is the game played off the field.
There is a proposed change that could give parents more guidance in knowing the safest youth football helmets.
“Are they doing everything they can to protect my kids? For 20 years the industry has had the opportunity to improve their helmets, and I think they have dropped the ball,” Lee Hanson said.
Hanson took technology he developed for the military and created The Guardian Cap. The product adds extra padding outside the helmet. It’s used by teams from Clemson and Syracuse.

Ryan Nassib Gunning for Backup Position (PS; Mink)
The New York Giants added depth to their quarterback room this offseason by signing free agent Josh Freeman.
The move seemingly sent signals that the Giants may not be sold on ex-Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib being the primary backup to Eli Manning.
Nassib, speaking to reporters Tuesday, not only said he was undeterred by the competition but left little doubt on his No. 1 goal heading into the 2014 season.
"I don't really see it as anything," Nassib told reporters. "It's the same reason why they bring in guys for other positions. It's just trying to create competition, trying to make guys better."

If Minneapolis Can Build a New Stadium And Get Rewarded with a Super Bowl, Why Can't Buffalo (PS; Poliquin)
If the good citizens of Western New York cupped their ears on Tuesday and pointed them south they'd have heard voices talking directly to them … and never mind that the uttered words amounted to so much extortion. They were spoken and perhaps even heard.

"Overall I was very impressed with the school and what it has to offer," Parkinson wrote. "I had only been there once before and it was for a Cuse basketball game. This was much different. The program overall was awesome, the facilities, the staff and the Dome."
"What I like about Cuse is the opportunity to have great football and academics," he wrote, "as well as the coaches and facilities."
