Now that the first exhibition game is in the can, it's time to get serious about basketball and nothing is more serious than the the 7th annual Iggy award. The first regular season game is less than ten days away and all entries need to be submitted by tip off. That would be by Friday, November 14th at 7 pm for the casual fan. If we can get this pinned, the Iggy award committee would appreciate it. Last year we had 78 entries, which was a little light but hopefully with a lot of question marks this year we will have a lot more entries since it's very wide open. In fact this could arguably be the team with the most questions in the Boeheim era. I'm really looking forward to see all of the picks to see who you feel is going to be the category leaders and what people feel the teams record is going to be.
There are seven Iggy's to be awarded and the seventh category will also be our tie breaker. Nothing has changed from last year except for some of the names and faces.
Here are the seven categories for the uninformed:
1) Regular season record. There are 31 regular season games.
2) ACC season record. There are 18 ACC games.
3) ACC Tournament record. The most we could play is five games unless we are one of the top four seeds. In that case, the most we could play is three games. And if we are seeds 5-8, the most we could play is four games. Similar to the BET. See this attached link for further questions about how the tourney is set up.http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools...pdf/2013-14/misc_non_event/acc-tourney-14.pdf Thanks to TDTOrange for that info.
4) Post-season record (and notate if NCAA, NIT, CBI, etc.)
5) Leading scorer and how many points per game
6) Leading rebounder and how many rebounds per game
7) TIEBREAKER. Player with most minutes per game and how many.
Here are my entries:
1) Regular season record. 23-8.
2) ACC season record. 12-6
3) ACC Tournament record. 2-1
4) Post-season record: 2-1 NCAA
5) Leading scorer and how many points per game: McCullough 15.1
6) Leading rebounder and how many rebounds per game: Christmas 6.8
7) TIEBREAKER. Player with most minutes per game and how many: Joseph 34.8
Here are last years results (and a big thank you to CTO who stepped in for me to chair the tabulation committee to determine the Iggy champions.) Here are your trophies that Lawrinson designed and were carved out of solid 24k gold at the Iggy Mint. If you were a winner, you should have received your trophy in the mail. If not please feel free to send Lawrinson a private message.
We had 78 entrants competing in six categories, plus a tiebreaker (which player had the most minutes per game and how many -- which turned out to be CJ with 37.8 mpg). I will go through the categories one at a time.
REGULAR SEASON RECORD: Sixteen people picked the correct regular season record (27-4). Of them, only two (ORRange and GonzoinMD) correctly said CJ would have the most minutes. GonzoinMD won the tiebreaker by predicting 35.1 mpg.
ACC SEASON RECORD: Some 26 posters correctly predicted a 14-4 record. Of them, only three (Cusefan0307, GonzoinMD and Louie&Bouie) correctly said CJ would have the most minutes. Cusefan0307 won the tiebreaker by predicting 35.5 minutes for CJ.
ACC TOURNAMENT: We were an optimistic bunch last November. No one predicted an 0-1 record. Of the six posters who predicted 1-1. only SendItHome correctly said CJ would have the most minutes.
POST SEASON RECORD: Again we were an optimistic bunch. Pearl309 was the only poster who predicted a 1-1 record.
LEADING SCORER: Both RandygoCuse and SUSScuse correctly predicted CJ would score 16.5 ppg. Neither one picked CJ to have the most minutes. Therefore there was no tiebreaker and they share the prize.
LEADING REBOUNDER; Jeremi led in boards with 6.8 per game. Marsho1 did not need a tiebreaker to win. He was the only poster to nail it perfectly.
