Time to start playing 2 D1AA teams a year

Now if there are not enough Bowl eligible teams you can make it with a 4-6 D1A record and 2-0 D1AA record. Isn't that just dandy? Might as well play 2 teams since it would give us 7 home games every year. Play 9 ACC games and 1 BCS OOC. What is the point in playing anything harder than that?

And further weaken the home schedule.

The mix as I see it:

Years with 5 ACC home/4 ACC away (add game at MetLife, 1 away game (try for interesting destination games or driveable away games), and 1 home game versus a team like Akron or Colgate (after they meet min scholie standards in a few years)

Years with 4 ACC home/5 ACC away, host 1 game home versus BE or better league team, 1 away/or one game home versus lower Div 1A team to meet contracts, and 1 home game versus a team like Akron or Colgate (after they meet min scholie standards in a few years)

Some random thoughts:
Here on out we should only schedule MetLife in odd years, we should play Colgate almost yearly (maybe 7 out of 10 years), and we need to get 2 for 1's or 3 for 2's with MAC, SunBelt, CUSA type teams. Additionally we need to sprinkle in a home/home with some BCS or nBE teams for variety. The CNY fan will not be able to drive to many ACC games (BC, Pitt and MD) so SU should look at some nonconf games versus teams within a 6 hour drive of Syracuse (Rutgirls, UConn, UMass, Buffalo, Temple) some of these will be 1 for 1's (Rutgirls and UConn) but teams like UB, UMass, Akron, Kent, Temple, etc...should be willing to take 2 for 1's or 3 for 2's.

The overriding goal (not counting MetLife games) is to get 6 home games every year as a minimum...and hopefully 7 in some years.

Finally, why the Colgate love? Simply stated they will bring 3-4k fans to the game and should be cheaper to get as they only require a 45-50 minute bus ride.

Why even do that? What is the advantage to SU? A team like Akron will have 30k people show up in the Dome and then we have to have a return trip there. What is the point? Isn't playing a 1AA every year and having 30k show up better then having 30k show up for Akron one year and then having one less home game and having to travel to Akron? Financially we are worse off. And it makes things more difficult for the team. As a fan I want to play 12 BCS games a year, but for the program it hurts more than it helps.

Agreed 1AA games offer SU a way to balance the schedule. We'll have to wait and see how much 1AA teams can fetch for a guaranteed game. If Cuse goes the 1AA route I hope they play Colgate. I'll be interested in seeing how many Stony Brook fans travel and how big the crowd is...I think we play some MAC teams 2 for 1 to allow us to play games in areas we recruit, allow some OH/MI/MA Cuse fans a close game and also Upstate NY Cuse fans have some ability to travel to some of these away MAC games. The CUSA/Sunbelt teams I imagine would be far and few between and hopefully as a 2 for 1...I just think lower 1As will draw more fans than 1AAs besides Colgate. I expect our season tix sales will increase in 2013 by 5k.
