When a baseball manager holds a team meeting to light a fire, he does it the day before his ace pitches. Good chance they win the next day, he can point to his team meeting and say it worked.

For HCSS to change the OC, his close friend, the week they have a new QB and the #1 team in the country coming in, with a likely loss, the timing seems odd. Especially after the "remain calm, all is well!", press conference. Why not change OC for the Wake Forest game, where a win is more likely and provides further justification for the OC switch?

Anybody get the feeling that there's much more here than meets the eye? Some very big straw(s) that broke the camel's back over the weekend that forced Shafer's hand?

Things that make me go hmmmmm...

All good points. Still wondering why the change was made now. Maybe somebody on the premium board will provide some insight. :D

i'm sure his lack of discretion reared its ugly head around other coaches or players

To me, there's a post buried in the McDonald thread (which I haven't revisited) that, if true, would pretty much seal the deal as to what happened. If he really froze up in the booth and playcalling duties had to be transferred, then I'm not really sure what else there is to talk about.

That's worse than the "*** it" interview, which I'm sure didn't help.

If we get crushed this weekend, it gives McDonald an excuse. See, nobody can win with these players.

if we get crushed this weekend and Mcdonald thinks it gives them an excuse he is not only a poor offensive coordinator, but he also doesn't understand the talent gap. If we get crushed this weekend it will be similar to if the sun comes up tomorrow, or if my wife nags me today.
