Our team is in position to make tackles but they miss abnormal amount of tackles. What drills could be done to fix this? I don't need to hear about the Oklahoma drill like the Miami Dolphins busted out that was for the cameras.

We just need to get back to basics and make the tackles we are in position to make.

This makes no sense. Yea we're missing tackles we should make and people are frustrated with some if the coaches. But m pretty sure they know the drills and work on it. You think someone here, HS coach or not, is gong to tell a 9 man college coaching staff what tackling drills we could do? Seriously?

I am asking the question. I don't expect the staff to listen to an internet board. Way to go off base on my post. I want to know the drills so we can see if they can improve tackling. I have no clue what the drills are so I am asking the question. Thanks for not asking what I meant and going down the path you went.

And we'll tackle better if you know the drills are? It's obvious you asked the question because you think we must not be doing the right ones.

If I wanted to take a shot at a certain coach I have no problem doing so. You are off topic where my motives are in this thread. I am curious from people with knowledge what drills are done to improve tackling. As during the season you don't have many padded practices thanks to player safety and kids being in classes.

If I wanted to rip a coach I would do so. I am honestly asking a question I know nothing about.

Get bigger . I'm willing to bet we have one of the smallest defenses for all P5 programs.

You repeated what I said in my first post good job. I am asking a question. If I wanted to rip a coach I would. I just want to know from FB coaches what can be done in practice to help improve tackling.

How many full contact practices/scrimmages does the team have in a week? This would directly relate to in-game tackling performance, IMO, because no drills accurately replicate most in-game tackling situations.

Speaking only from experience in high school, we had a defensive coordinator who preferred 3 full contact practices a week in my Junior year and I remember very few missed tackles. We got a new defensive coordinator the next year and ran truly full contact scrimmages once per week. I remember an abnormal amount of missed tackles. Practice injuries in both years remained roughly equal. Not scientific, but that's my take.

I will guarantee you that this staff (or any good HS staff for that matter) knows what drills to run. It's not the drills...

Part of our misses are based on trying to free the ball vs making the tackle.

Simple. Get better football players. Until we do, don't expect a different result.
