In the old BCS era SOS and opponents of opponents record was factored into the computers.
On December 5th, 2003 the Championship week of CFB Syracuse hosted Notre Dame. Notre Dame was an opponent of Southern Cal. Syracuse thumped the Fighting Irish and that hurt USC's computer ranking in the BCS. That win by Syracuse on the final weekend knocked USC out of the NC game because it hurt USC's SOS.

So if LSU could please be nice and kind to SU team on the field this Saturday it would be appreciated. As Nick Saban gave us a vote in his coaches poll ballot for beating ND for you guys that year.

I was at that Hall of Fame Bowl game. I remember one fat, drunk, redneck sitting not too far from us kept repeating 'why don't you call a southern play, MacPherson'. I am sure it made sense to him at the time.

Actually, check this out for sports karma. Su won the basketball title. Lsu won the football title. Both in New Orleans where my wife grew up. There was no going back after that year.
