Tommy DeVito, Airon Servais and Andre Cisco Press Conference | Sept 8

Cisco on defending the UNC offense: "I think the biggest thing is just to fly around -- play fast and play physical." Believes effort will be key in a matchup that hinges on "athletes vs. athletes."

Cisco on UNC QB Sam Howell: "He shows a lot of poise. He sits in the pocket well, scans the field well so when you play a quarterback like that you've got to be in coverage a few seconds longer than usual."

Cisco on gearing up for the season: "We didn't really know if we were going to get to this point, maybe even last week. ... A lot of guys are excited. I'm excited myself. At the end of the day, it's what you work for all year."

Cisco on RB Jawhar Jordan: "Definitely a threat. Fast dude, slippery. I think he's very useful running between the tackles." Called backup Markenzy Pierre "sneaky fast" and someone who has the build to be an every-down back. Pointed to Pierre's receiving ability as a strength.

Cisco on LBs: "They have been very coachable, willing to learn and they play physical. That's what we need at the end of the day." Expects more growth to come with experience during the season.

DeVito describes OC Sterlin Gilbert as a "very energetic dude." Says they've gotten close and he's eager to work together this weekend.

DeVito called UNC's linebackers and defensive backs as the strength of their defense.

DeVito asked about low bar set by outsiders for Syracuse this year. "Nobody really knows what's going on. It's been a wild year to say the least. Anything can happen." Mentioned injuries and other uncertainties regarding opponents' personnel.

DeVito on UNC LB Chazz Surratt: "You can tell he's hard-nosed, runs through the ball."

DeVito said RBs Markenzy Pierre and Jawhar Jordan earned the trust of those within the program during camp. Circles back to uncertainties this year and believes those two can surprise some opposing defenses. Obviously not much game tape on either.

DeVito on receivers: "Anybody who touches the ball can go the distance." Said Ed Hendrix and Anthony Queeley have soaked up knowledge the last couple years. Plans to keep them loose leading up to kickoff.

Servais on now. He's asked about Adams and Howard opted out, points to the next-man-up mindset.

Servais said he's honed in on UNC LB Tomon Fox in his game prep. Keying in on pre-snap tendencies in anticipation of pass protection.

Servais on LG Chris Elmore: "I think he's doing well." Pointed to his smarts, versatility and willingness to learn. "He's really stepped into that role well."

Asked Servais about the RBs. He said the current group, led by Pierre and Jordan, have matured physically and mentally. One big responsibility for RBs in this offense is calling out protections and adjustments. That will be really important on Saturday.

Servais said the current offensive line group has been going for a few weeks now. Only real surprise of camp came when Elmore joined the group at the start.

Honestly this really made me feel more at ease about Elmore at guard. I think he has what it takes. LGO
