It’s sad to say but Syracuse will not win with Devito. He’s a good Qb but the fact is there is a recruiting issue. Can’t get receivers or lineman. The only difference from this team and the one that won 10 games is a mobile qb. This running up the middle with a high school caliber line Is mind numbing. There is a major disconnect with Dino and recruits and I don’t get it. Year 5 and we shouldn’t be in this position. Renovated stadium, updated locker room, ipf, “upgraded” coaches. What other excuses does the university need to fix. Dino needs to bring in better classes or a change needs to be made. There is a very big chance they don’t win a game. You can’t blame Covid on 5 years of missed opportunities. 10 win season and an awful recruiting class coming out of it should say It all. Where are the qb, wr, and linemen recruits that should be lining up to play inside under an offensive coach. THERE IS A DISCONNECT

I love devito, think he is a great QB, I think he is a QB that you give him good pieces and he turns into a scoring machine. I don’t know and I’m starting to doubt he can take poor OL and WR play and turn them into the next level

If he had a capable line and even mid level d1 receivers we win today
I don’t even think we needed that much. Just don’t drop the TD pass in his hands and Taj catch 2 of his drops and that’s 21 points. Don’t get a dumb penalty on the punt return and that’s 34 points we score alone and we aren’t flailing at 6

Power 5 starting receivers shouldn’t be dropping those passes and how is he the only viable receiver in year 5.

That's the difference between a good team and a poor team. One makes the plays, and one doesn't.

Just because Devito has a great arm doesnt mean he's a great leader on the field...he's not good at finding secondry receiver's...his scrambling out of the pocket never ends up with positive yards...he's gonna end up getting benched if he doesnt figure it out...

He actually scrambled quite a bit today for positive yards. He just needs to turn up field instead of looking for a WR

We missed two scores or huge gainson balls he over and under threw as well.

The same issues are there re not finding second and third options but his best throws were all dropped. His coach didn’t challenge a first down that killed us. No dangerous throws. Some good runs.

To me he’s the only hope we have for the offense getting it together.

Hard to win without a run game or healthy OL.

pretty hard being a QB when the defense knows what is coming.

We’ll be fine as soon as the o line gels a bit. Not worried about tommy. He can spin the rock.

Thanks for some support I’m super depressed
I have to watch the game again and get feed back from tommy after he sees the film .
I expected more out of tommy and he deserves to take some heat for missing some throws and he has to figure out how to make something happen when flushed out . At least he is scrambling for some yards now that he is healthy . Again after film hopefully I’ll have some answers but I don’t know if I can share them. After an offensive stinker there’s lots to point to and it starts with Tommy and ends with Tommy he has to be the guy . After Tommy I was disappointed we couldn’t run the ball , errant deep passes , drops , wrong routes ( many of them ) it’s just to many things to overcome. We blew a major opportunity yesterday and it hurts . I’m going to give Gilbert a pass it was his first chance to see what he had we are going to need him to get creative. I still have confidence in the passing game we have talented players who didn’t. Get in yesterday it’s an area we have depth
The run game concerns me the most because that’s gonna hurt the offense overall . It was the run game that won the game for North Carolina yesterday. And our offense that lost it for us . Next week might be uglier hang in there guys it could be worst you could be me !

I'm a Td fan. His pocket presence needs to get much better but he has a middle of the pack oline he's playing with and fcs caliber skill players.
Huh? Nothing about this post is correct. The o-line he played with yesterday would barely handle an FCS opponent, let alone FBS. We started a fullback at guard! The third tackle on team weighs 265 lbs! Did you see the YAC that Harris had on one of his catches? For every drop that a WR had yesterday, TD had an overthrow or a missed target so the fault is shared there IMO. We have 2 OUTSTANDING tight ends that weren’t even used yesterday.

Trust me, he is not playing with FCS skill players. If TD wants to be considered on same level with Howell, he better start playing like it despite the OL issues.

There's a lot to be said that has been said. What I will say is that his career is mirroring James Blackman's. A QB that was expected to do a lot in Tallahassee, but because of playing behind a below average line and not putting everything together, he's disappointed.

A lot of respect for you to come out here and take it on the chin. Head up, better days on the horizon.

You are correct but our tight end had to stay into block hence the coverage sacks due to the numbers being against us . I love our tight ends

We are in all pulling in the same direction. Hang in there. Redrum, what’s your impression of Gilbert thus far and the impact he has had and will have on the offense? Is it a matter of time before we see progress or too early to tell?

I saw some good scrambles and the best throws being dropped. The timing of the drops was the worst Sharrod loses yards falling down on a screen and then drops a perfectly thrown ball in the end zone. The coaching staff not challenging that first down was insanity and as bad as what they called 4th and short.

The red zone play calling was atrocious. I think Sharrods drop was the only play call where the ball ended up being thrown into the end zone.

When the Lou Groza award winning kicker deflated us before half time I don't think mentally the offense could overcome only having 3 points. Sort of like how the D was cooked by the end of the 3rd quarter.

I hope we don't even think about trying to run it on Pitt and just air raid it out. Remember that first quarter possession where Jordan had what looked like 2 nice runs on 1st and 2nd and you were sure we had a 1st but it was still 3rd and short... sums it up.

Jordan was scolded on that play. He was trying to make guys miss instead of running north/south. Guys have to be smarter and perform better when their number is called. This is all it really comes down to when looking at yesterday.

I can’t believe I messed up the recording
I’ll record the 1pm replay today . Again regarding Gilbert he gets a pass he needs time to assess what he has . Please I’m not playing the excuse game as I stated it’s on tommy . But when I watch all the other games
Every team was breaking runs or making plays with great catches .our longest run by a rb wad 1 6 yard run 1 No rhythm just asking a lot but I expect a lot . I don’t watch the line as far as run blocks but is anyone here an o line guy ? Were the holes there or was it the backs ?

There were 0 holes

Agreed. My one issue with Dino (and I think he is fantastic) is that he has been too stubborn with his offensive philosophy. I recognize that he wants nothing more than to establish the run early so to open up the passing game later on. But that is not happening with this personnel, most notably a 170 lb running back. I don’t pretend that he has a ton of other options but I really think he needs to turn this game plan upside down to better mask his offensive weaknesses and emphasize the offensive strengths. Tight end is a strength. Sending your RB up the middle on first and second down is not it. It does the offense no favors and puts TD in an awful third and long situation. By the way, where the hell is the “Ervin Philips” role on this team that for the first 3 years the QB had as a last option to pick up 3-5 yards on a short throw? That option bailed out Dungey dozens of times and it left when Erv graduated. A shame.
