Tonight's 30 for 30 should be a great one.

I usually love the 30 for 30 but I have zero interest in this one. Just seems like a weird one go devote a 30/30 for. He's still visible, hasn't gone missing from the public eye. Lots of other subjects I wished they tackled first.

"An exploration of former NFL receiver Randy Moss and his humble (and humbling) origins in Rand, West Virginia."

I think Moss is the most talented wide receiver in the history of football.

I think i've told this anecdote before, but in case i have not...

I have a friend who was a high profile D-1 recruit in the late 90's. He was recruited heavily by Syracuse but ultimately landed elsewhere. He was telling me that Moss was signed sealed and delivered for Notre Dame. In fact, they completed an entire application for him and sent it to him. All he had to do was sign "X." Apparently, he could not even do that. Sometime later, he had the altercation and Notre Dame went its separate way. This is obviously third hand so take it for what it's worth, but i thought it was pretty funny all he had to do was sign his name and send back the application, and he failed to even do that.

It isn't true. Randy can sign his name. He can also read and respond appropriately to the entirety of a college application. I've met Randy. My wife has taught at a couple of the schools he went through growing up. Any of his teachers will tell you, he's not dumb. He also does incredible things for the local community here in Charleston, WV and this community is proud of what he's done in the NFL.

wait, so Notre Dame writes essays for prospective athletes too? Hell, I thought it was limited to enrolled athletes and class work. That's commitment!

i'm sorry. I dont think my friend's insinuation was that he was illiterate. I apologize if that was how my post read ("he couldnt even do that"). I think it was more along the lines of his being apathetic and/or ignorant. As i said, this is a story he got from someone (who presumably would know) and relayed to some friends.

I watched last night and saw what lou holtz said. I also have heard Randy Speak in interviews and on TV, and he clearly is articulate. Even the stuff they showed with him at 16, 17, 18, 19, he expressed himself better than most would.

It was a really interesting thing to watch. I'm not a huge Moss fan, but his story was very intersesting. Even knowing his story, and how things went down at ND / FSU, I was shocked at how close his life came to being ruined by a fairly minor drug violation of his parole. And his lack of involvment in the brawl that landed him on probation in the first place was also news to me.

Ultimately, Moss seems to perpetually make mistakes at every step along the way. I agree with the above poster who suggests that he comes across as an intelligent, articulate guy. They even showed yesterday how he took responsibility for his actions, and made impassioned apologies numerous times throughout where he placed the blame squarely upon himself [not easy for a kid to do, which he was at the time]. I also really enjoyed the "Rand University" stuff--eye opening.

Entertaining watch for anybody who might want to catch it in future broadcasts. And this is coming from someone without much interest in Moss going in.

Didn't Moss himself say that he kicked a guy twice in the head/neck while he was on the ground during the aforementioned brawl? I've always liked Moss, but I thought it was surprising that even as an adult he was trying to play that off as if it was nothing.

I didn't catch him say "kick" -- I thought he said "tapped," and that he described trying to break up the fight. Bt what you're suggesting makes a LOT more sense--I coudn't figure out why he got the book thrown for having no real involvement in the brawl.

That explains a lot--I was wondering how that got pinned on him when he ostensibly [i.e., what I thought I heard him describe] had zero involvement in the brawl.

When he was "on" I never saw a WR dominate the way Randy Moss did.

I get that this board is full of Patriots haters, but man, I can't adequately describe the total joy it was to watch him and Brady in the 2007 season. When those two were locked in it was like watching them play a different game.

In other words, it was the exact and total opposite of what it's been like watching SU football this season.

I remember Brady throwing him a bomb that he missed at the end of that season. That was pretty cool.

Hey, should we start a thread to discuss Coughlin's "firing"? Or should that wait?

:)

I believe Belichek said he was one of the most intelligent wr's he ever coached.

Always liked Moss. Sure he made some mistakes, but once the media has their eyes set on you, your as good as screwed.

So when are they going to do a 30 for 30 on Johnnie Morant? :D

That gets me to thinking... I'm sure he's a lovely guy... but has there ever been a name that promised so much and delivered so little as Rice Moss?

"Straight cash, homey"

I thought that E60 was fantastic.

To be honest, I had no clue where Moss was from, let alone WV and then Marshall.

And I looked at his NFL stats...silly. 156 touchdowns is insanity.

Sounds like Moss was just one of those guys who was good at everything. Also, I thought he conducted himself pretty well in the segments where he spoke about his past. And by conducted himself, I mean, spoke english.

I see a lot of similarities between Moss and Allen Iverson. Both came from rough upbringings, got into some trouble as a kid that almost cost them everything. Polarizing figure in the pros. Each unbelievably gifted athletes. Most say that Moss could easily have played high level college basketball, and Iverson could have played high level college football.

The basketball team at Dupont High School with Randy Moss, NBA all-star Jason Williams, and NFL LB Bobbie Howard was incredible.

I was hoping they would have explored this topic a bit more. I recall a nike commercial where they showed clips of Moss and J Williams that was pretty cool.

EDIT: Found it...

Too bad they didnt get white chocolate to participate. Wonder if he declined.

Moss definitely downplayed his role in fight but i have my doubts...
