What is supposed to be about the kids/players, coaches, teams, fan bases, alumni, etc. has sadly been usurped by:
The sordid Rice/Rutgers saga
AD Pernetti and Rutgers President Barchi, and their soap opera
Ed Rush putting a hit on Sean Miller
That dildo NCAA Commissioner Emmert's attempts to be the story
Bernie Fine, with all of his baggage, appearing in Atlanta. Couldn't the guy watch the game(s) at home, instead of once more inserting himself into the mix? Sure, he has every right to go wherever he wants but what level of insensitivity and ego demands that he shoulder his way into these players' dream? Wasn't he enough of a distraction last year?
I go to the ESPN or CBSSports websites, and most of the stories are about the above crap.
I don't get it. Is this what the sporting public wants to concern themselves with? Would most people rather watch Ware's hideous injury, over and over again? Stare at a dead baby? It's sickening to me.
This is supposed to be a magical time of the year, the celebration leading into springtime and renewal. Our finest college basketball teams trying to grab a piece of history. Instead, we are treated to a vaudeville show in the septic tank. Or is it, to quote Mae West, "Virtue has its own reward, but no sale at the box office"?
I can't wait to see what other sport sewage story grabs the headlines between now and tip-off tomorrow.
