My son is swimming in his first NYS DIII championships this week. He missed last year's, due to grades (which was really a blessing because he hit the books and made Dean's list.) He has two personal records so far, including one in the 200 yard individual medley (50 yards each of backstroke, breast stoke, butterfly and freestyle, for those unfamiliar). It's his first year doing the event and he cut 6 seconds off his previous best and placed 27 out of about 45.
He also had a PR in the 100 Breast and placed 27th. Until last year, (his freshman year) he was a distance freestyler, so much of this is new to him.
He is seeded 20th in the 200 breast and is hoping to get into the top 16 . That's on Saturday.
Many of you have been here, many are on the way here: nothing beats watching your kids grow, mature and succeed.
Swimming is cool, because even if you don't win, you can measure success by your personal improvement, which is a great life lesson.
