The Syracuse track and field team travels to University Park, Pa. to compete in the Penn State National this weekend. The Orange will face over thirty teams, including five nationally ranked opponents in Penn State (No. 5), Villanova (No. 14), Akron (No. 18), Virginia Tech (No. 22), and Georgetown (No. 33).

'Cuse is coming off strong performances from last weekend's competition at the Cornell Upstate Challenge with six capturing gold for the Orange: Freddie Crittenden, Reggie Morton, Shaina Harrison, Maura Linde, and Sofia Mossberg.

At the Penn State National last year, Martin Hehir broke the school record in the 3,000-meter (7:59.40). Other top performances include; Donald Pollitt in the 60-meter dash (third/7.89), Dan Lennon and Juris Silenieks in the 5,000-meter run (second/14:42.15 and third/14:34.57), Colin Bennie in the mile (third/4:12.28), and Haley Cutright in the 3,000-meter (first/9:39.99).

Competition begins on Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

Full_Rebar I have a question since you seem in the know. Does this team even have any sprinters? It seems like the competition is mostly the cross country kids.

Two Sub-4 Minute Miles Highlight Penn State National

A pair of sub-4 minute miles, including a Canadian Junior Record from Justyn Knight highlighted Syracuse's performance at the Penn State Nationals this weekend.

Knight broke a record that stood for 14 years with his time of 3:59.51, while All-American Martin Hehir raced to a time of 3:59.81. Their times were good for third and fourth respectively.

A gold medal in the women's 4x400 relay from Brittany Belo, Bria Goodson, Sabrina Cammock and Rebecca Robinson highlighted the day for the woamen as the group finished in 3:47.09, more than a full second ahead of second-place Bucknell, while Joel Hubbard took first in the men's 1000 with a time of 2:24.79 for the other first place performance.

Syracuse also turned in a number of top-10 performances in the two-day meet.

Freddie Crittenden and Donald Pollitt led the way for the men's sprinters, taking second and third respectively in the 60-meter hurdles. Crittenden and Pollit, as well as winner Reggie Rucker all finished in 7.81 seconds, but Rucker nudged Pollit (who took second) and Crittenden at the line.

Shaina Harrison took second in the 60-meter dash for the Orange, finishing in 7.41, the same time as her preliminary race. Harrison also ran a 7.39 in the semifinals.

Jabari Butler once again performed well in the high jump for the Orange, leaping to a height of 2.11 meters in the finals, which gave him second place. Reggie Morton took sixth in the long jump for Syracuse, with a final distance of 7.13 meters.

Margo Malone and Jessie Peterson continued the Orange's success in distance events, taking third (9:26.85) and fifth (9:36.09) in the 3,000-meter run. Maura Linde finished 10th in the race with a time of 9:45.34.

Syracuse once again turned in some top-times in the mile, as Stephanie Bitcon and Gabriella Kruez took second and third respectively with times of 5:00.68 and 5:02.53.

Dan Lennon's second-place finish in the 5k (14:21.95) was another top-performance from the distance group on the day. In addition, Fiona Hendry (7th/17:29.85) and Rebecca Skodis (9th/17:47.64) represented Syracuse in the top-10 of the women's 5k.

In the 60-hurdles, Sofia Mossberg took sixth for the Orange with a time of 8.53 seconds.

Rebecca Robinson turned in a strong performance in the 400-meter dash, racing to a time of 55.07, which was good for fifth, while Victoria Parker finished 11th in the 200 for 'Cuse, completing the event in 25:34.

Three members of the Orange turned in top-10 finishes in the men's 3,000-meters. Colin Bennie (5th/8:09.43), Max Straneva (9th/8:14.63) and Kevyn Hoyos (10th/8:17.67) each turned in strong races for 'Cuse.

Yes. SU has some very good hurdlers and a couple of good sprinters...no throwers and very few field event participants. Sadly, most of that is due to the lack of practice facilities. There was a great field/multi-event coach at SU, but he left when Manley was renovated and all the jump/throws areas were removed.

Somehow SU has a high jumper, even though he has no place to practice. That's sad for a P5 school.

Maybe they could get Duerig and Adam to put shot.;)

But when I was looking at the events I started to wonder why they even have Track & Field at Cuse. Very sad.
