The quick and dirty.    The close less did help Wake in KP and probably even more in NET since they give a bump to road gasmes -- they were expected to lose by about 9 under, and only loss by 1.

The issue is that is the Wake was expected to win the American and Morehead by a total of 43 points (as a #50 level team), but only won them by 28 total.   So that is a deficit of 15 over 2 games and they moved down a bit.

So close loss was positive 8 points, but Q4 games were negative 15 points.  So that is why they have slid a bit since the season started.

In terms of resume to get in the tourney it's a different story because it comes down purely to your quality of your wins and how "bad" your losses were... not "bad" in terms of the margin, but in terms of the opponent.   So, close losses against good teams don't really help.   You don't get punished for the losses either.   But the "penalty" is that not winning one of those close loss games, could be the difference in you losing your dance ticket.
