We were at 8 schollies b/ TT committed (DC, Chukwu, Lydon, Moyer, Howard, Battle, Gillon, TR). TT makes it 9, and if White commits it'll be 10. We have 11 to give out (minus 2 this year), and I doubt JB will take any more players after White (10). So we won't even max out the ships we have available. Some might say that prior year's losses (transfers of BJ/Patterson and maybe Thomas Bryant) were related to the sanctions - that's debatable. But this year's defections (Chino, KJ) were about PT/ability more than anything else.

As far as the transfers coming in (Chukwu, Gillon and potentially White) ... Francis, et al, will be able to comment more authoritatively, but I think it's the realities of recruiting and not sanctions. If you don't have program guys ready to step in (harder and harder with the lure of the NBA), you have to fill the holes immediately with highly qualified players -- either HS superstuds or talented transfers. This year at SU is a perfect example: we lose TC, G and MR out of the back court ... all very good players. To fill those holes, the staff didn't have a program guy (KJ didn't work out), so they recruited a mix of highly talented freshmen (Battle), and veteran transfers (Gillon, White). This isn't much different than mixing one-and-dones with program kids ... except the program kids come from other schools.
