The substance of Brent's story: Syracuse University men’s lacrosse player Trey Deere will likely miss the 2026 season due to injuries sustained in a car accident last month, sources confirmed to syracuse.com. The extent or details of Deere’s injuries are not clear, but his recovery time could necessitate taking a redshirt year. The accident took place prior to the start of SU’s spring semester on the Kahnawake Mohawk Territory (Ontario), where Deere is from. Syracuse University has declined to answer questions about Deere when asked directly by syracuse.com. Inside lacrosse was first to report the news. Deere, a junior attackman, played in all 19 games last season for the Orange, scoring 19 goals with two assists. He played a key role on SU’s man-up unit, scoring seven extra-man goals which tied for eighth in the country last season. Deere was in line to play a bigger role on the left side of SU’s attack this season with senior Joey Spallina running the show behind the cage at the “X” slot and Finn Thomson solidified on the right spot. SU has an opening on the left attack with the graduation of dynamic scorer Owen Hiltz, who had 239 career points with the Orange. Sophomore Payton Anderson, who started four games last season, could be in line for that spot now. Senior Michael Leo, SU’s third-leading scorer last season, playing both attack and midfield is an option for the Orange as well. Deere is one of several Orange players proficient in box lacrosse. Deere was recently a Bronze medalist with the Haudenosaunee at the World Lacrosse Box Championships in Utica.
