Trivia

Horrified of zoning our shooters…..and licking their chops at what they could do to us by pressuring the ball.

We weren’t pressured as much as people might think. And we didn’t really turn it over a lot vs the press. For all turnovers, out of over 300 D1 teams, we were 35th in fewest turnovers per game. Not really bad at all.

Wish that would’ve help up against Miami and Wake. 19-14 wouldn’t have been that bad of a season.

We only had 9 vs Wake. Yes we had a couple bad possessions. We did have a season high of 19 vs Miami mostly because Jesse had an unusual 6. And again we had a bad possession. But to extrapolate a few bad possessions and one horrible TO game to say teams licked their chops to pressure us, isn’t borne out. An average of 10 per game is pretty darn good.

I know you watched those games and saw what happened and how we lost them though.

But pressure doesn’t have to result in turnovers right? We could not dribble by anyone. So really the pressure just took away shot clock and forced a ton of late hero shots by Buddy. So maybe tight man defense is more apt than pressure here.

The frustrating part of the turnovers last year was their untimeliness. When the game was on the line, the ball was turned over. When there was 4 minutes left in the game, Cuse almost always stopped scoring and also sometimes turned it over. Maybe due to lack of depth and being tired. Just a handful of total possessions tanked the season and cost them 3-4 games. Also a few horrible untimely calls didn't help.

Iso ball = reduced TOs. One of the benefits, for sure.

I think any pressure that delayed us getting into our offense prob did the job in the moments that it occurred.

All that zone stat tells me is that we were pretty one-dimensional in our offense, for better or worse.
