"Trouble with Officiating" (OSU/SU)...

That's actually a really strong argument right there.
Either we went into the game with the intention to foul 3x more than we had all season...
...or the Big East referee's are simply that soft in their calling of fouls...
...or the crew that did this one individual game were just whistle happy.

To me the killers were Waiters and Southerland. I don't think either one had been in foul trouble all year, and they both fouled out in only 31 combined minutes. Took 2 of our best scoring options and toughest matchups completely out of the game. Dion struggled, but I think being in foul trouble definitely got in his head a bit.

I think it was all about the crew, someone posted the numbers and all 3 were in the top 40 for most fouls a game I believe

I will never complain about the Tim & Jim show or really any Big East referees again. They're not perfect, but at least their games have some flow to them. The hacks that worked our game against OSU shouldn't be allowed to call a CYO game in Fargo.

True that. And while it is silly to say the refs were paid off, it's not so silly to think that kind of crew was intentionally assigned this game.

What is more likely, that an organization, the NCAA, that has hundreds of millions at stake for its keynote event, will attempt to influence the outcome of games to have a beneficial result, or that they'll just sit back and let things happen as they may?

If you told me the NCAA and the pro leagues didn't attempt to influence outcomes for a more beneficial financial result, I'd be shocked.

I think there is a grain of truth in the idea that the NCAA didn't want SU around any longer. We were carrying alot of ugly baggage with us this year...

by the way Bees...did you just go "True Dat" on us?

In the NCAA's you get refs brought together from all over. We always seem to see a drastic swing from regular season play in at least one of the tourney games.

Just think -- 2 years ago we were all complaining (myself included) as to how Butler got away with muggings (or tackles) all over the place, and we never adjusted. Of course they were called for only 15 fouls. The complete opposite happened in this game -- and we were on the short end both times. My point is that you rarely see such huge swings in the regular season, then an anomoly is thrown at the team in the NCAA's. I can't remember a game that on such a far end of the scale in the regular season in a long time.

The FoxSports article really shocked me. It does seem like the media sees us as a possible "black eye" for the sport that the NCAA didn't want representing the Final Four.

From Basketball Prospectus (via NunesMagician):

On Saturday the Orange’s fouling jumped to closer to one in every two possessions. Was their actual basketball performance really
three standard deviations
more hacky than what they’d done all year?
I heard a discussion on the radio yesterday talk about a clue to how "off" the officaiting was. The inadvertent whistle. It indicated that a) the ref was working with the whistle in his mouth which NO GOOD ref should do or b) he was anticiapating a foul that didn't happen! Neither is good.
