The incumbent
Steve Gregory has filled in admirably several times when a higher-profile player has fallen off, but he's an unrestricted free agent.
The Chargers have long sought an upgrade at this position, which is slightly unfair to Gregory. He has performed well as a complement to All-Pro free safety Eric Wedle, but his upside is limited. He won't be heavily pursued in free agency, so his familiarity with the system could be attractive if the Chargers decide to spend money on different positions.
