Interesting quote from Bromley in that Q&A with ESPN, re: Shafer:

He’s a lot more interactive than maybe [Doug] Marrone was because he knows us a lot more, he is a players’ coach. He’s hard-nosed, and he’s going to make sure we do things right, but he’s going to make sure we understand why we’re doing things.

Read into that what you will about Doug.

I think that has a lot to do with the time Schafer spent as a DC.

A head coach has twice as many players to try to build a personal relationship with.

I agree, and for the record I liked Doug and still like Doug despite being disappointed with him bailing. The way it was phrased, however, gives me a little bit of pause about how Doug might have interacted (or not) with the players.

Agreed. I would guess even if Schafer had not had the luxury of being on staff before being HC, he would still be more of a player's coach. That is just how his personality strikes me.

Nice luxury to have in the short-term, hopefully he can maintain that rapport long-term.

Like I said in another thread a few weeks ago, the working atmosphere has improved greatly, "it's a breath of fresh air!"

HCDM had become very parinod, not my words.

Sad follow-up article to the Jack Hoffman, Nebraska, story.

Gosh I read that this morning. How horribly sad for two members of the same family to deal with it.

I'd be wondering what environmental factors are contributing. Just doesn't seem possible for two family members to have similar if not exact rare cancer diagnoses.
