5. These teams probably won’t go out in the first round, but here’s a list of higher-seeded squads that I wouldn’t trust to make a deep run: No. 2 Villanova, No. 3 Syracuse, No. 3 Creighton, and No. 3 Duke (Huh. Apparently I hate the 3 seeds. Who knew?)
Courier-Journal

A one-and-done basketball tournament is a harrowing place for a suddenly struggling team (read: Syracuse) to right itself.
The Sac Bee

16.) Find teams with good point guard play. Michigan and Louisville reached the championship game last year because of this and it’s been that way for a while. Not many teams have cut down the nets without an elite guard handling the ball. Florida, Syracuse, Wichita State, Louisville, Arizona and Michigan State are all solid in this department.

20.) Avoid teams that have been struggling and get behind the teams that have recently caught fire. For example, Iowa has lost six of its last seven and Syracuse has lost five of its last seven. On the other hand, Virginia has won 16 of its last 17 and Baylor has won 10 of its last 12.

20 tips to help you fill out a perfect NCAA Tournament bracket

B is for the happy ticket scalpers in Buffalo, who have Syracuse playing there Thursday and Ohio State vs. Dayton.

S is for the seniors from the first Syracuse team coached by Jim Boeheim. They turned 60 this year.

NJ.com

(3) SYRACUSE vs. (14) Western Michigan — The Orange might not get back to the way they were when they were 25-0, but the zone should be a problem for the Broncos.

SYRACUSE vs. Ohio State — These teams met a few years ago with a Final Four berth at stake. There are fewer future NBA players on the roster this time, but the matchup of Orange freshman point guard Tyler Ennis against Ohio State's veteran Aaron Craft should be one of the best of the tournament.

KANSAS vs. Syracuse — This could be the game Embiid makes his return and even if he doesn't the Jayhawks have enough wing players to be able to handle the Orange's zone.
Rep-Am

Here we don’t want points — we need perfection, or Buffett won’t cough up his money. So we don’t want to waste our time thinking Syracuse might suddenly rebound.
NY Post

2. If the brackets had been drawn in January -- back when we said we were riding Syracuse to the title -- there's a chance that three No. 1 seeds back then landed Sunday in the South: the Orange, Florida and Kansas. And for Florida to be the overall No. 1 seed and get the most dangerous No. 2 in Kansas does not make sense.

5. Here's one guy's Final Four: Florida, Arizona, Louisville and Michigan State, with Florida and Louisville meeting in the title game. Yes, we picked Syracuse in January, but the current is more tangible than the dream
Times Free Press

But before we say “Stop the presses!” it is a long way before we call off the full-court press on this issue. The top programs on the court still are disproportionately poor in the classroom. Of the 13 lowest graduation rates in the tournament for black men, 8 are ranked in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll: Syracuse, Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio State, St. Louis, Iowa State, Connecticut and Wisconsin.
Boston Globe on graduation rates among NCAA teams

Florida got a buttery draw. People looked at Syracuse and Kansas both in their region and blanched. Which is silly because they can only play one, not both. The Gators will chomp either. They’re more versatile and smarter than the Orange, they’re tougher than the Jayhawks.
Penn Live

Getting Defensive
45.Syracuse (T-9th). The Orange allow 59.5 points per game this season, and held ACC opponents to under 60 points 12 times.

Consider about selling high
22.Syracuse
Orange are 343rd of 351 teams in Adjusted Tempo (possession per 40 minutes). Wisconsin and Pittsburgh were below 300 in that metric last year and lost in their first game.

Streaks to consider
15. A No. 4 seed has made the Final Four for three straight years. But none of those schools (Kentucky in 2011, Kansas in 2012 and Syracuse in 2013) went on to win the title. And only Kansas made the championship game.

Syracuse Basketball: Keys for Each Starter in Matchup vs. Western ...

Where to take you biggest gambles: Syracuse

(3) Syracuse vs. (14) Western Michigan: A lot of people are down on Syracuse right now, and with good reason. The Orange showed up for their first ACC tournament and got bounced, and that was the win that put N.C. State in the field. (SMU is smarting now because of it.) Jim Boeheim's team started 25-0 but has lost five of its last seven. I actually think Cuse has a decent chance of getting to the Elite Eight. That seemed a given three weeks ago, but now it's not a popular pick.

SOE

Jerami Grant, Syracuse. Grant probably won’t be available when Boston gets to use its second pick, but if he is, the Celtics would be wise to snatch him. He can score, but his promise lies mostly in his rebounding and defensive capabilities. SU comes into the tournament as a 3 seed, so Boston should get a good 2-3 games at least to scout Grant and see how he performs on the big stage.

Nice job OE. Wow, it must have taken a while to compile that list of links.

From the article under Buffalo News...

Demand for tickets from fans of Syracuse University basketball, which led the nation in attendance in 2013, was pushing ticket prices sky high for the afternoon session of games Thursday.

As of late Monday, the cheapest ticket for the afternoon session – which includes Ohio State versus Dayton at 12:15 p.m. and Syracuse tipping off against Western Michigan at 2:45 – was $107, more than double the lowest amount being asked for the evening games between Connecticut and St. Joseph’s and Villanova and Milwaukee, according to Connor Gregoire, a spokesman for SeatGeek, an online site that aggregates listings from major secondary-market ticket retailers.

“Normally, the night sessions across the board are more expensive, because it’s easier for fans to get to the arena at that hour, after work,” said Gregoire.

The Saturday session also had the priciest average ticket on the secondary market in the country at $210, according to both SeatGeek and TicketCity, another online ticket retailer.

So Syracuse led the nation in attendance in the regular season and continues to have the highest fan interest in the country in the post season. Not a surprise, as SU broke record a record for TV viewing in Buffalo this season...

No. 3 Syracuse vs. No. 6 Ohio State — South — March 22

Both Ohio State and Syracuse are in dire need of redemption. At certain points of the season, the two programs were considered shoo-ins for the Final Four, and now both have many question marks. Since the Cuse started the year with a 25-0 record, they have lost four of six (which doesn’t include their opening ACC tournament loss), but the presence of freshman Tyler Ennis (12.7 ppg, 5.6 apg) and C.J. Fair (16.7 ppg) cannot be discounted. The Buckeyes nearly made the Big Ten tournament final, and appear to have righted themselves, but how far can a stellar defense carry a suspect offense? Even if this game is decided well before the final buzzer, the match-up of Aaron Craft against Ennis will be satisfying.
NBC Sports Talk

Syracuse Orange

Syracuse was the hottest team in the country for most of the year, but recently, Dwight Freeney’s alma mater has stumbled. Perhaps the Orange could get back on track by incorporating some of Freeney’s moves, particularly his patented spin move.

Who are the Bolts pulling for?

3. Syracuse Orange
Living on the edge caught up with Syracuse late in the season as the Orange finally suffered a few losses. But this is a team with a top-notch point guard, Tyler Ennis, and championship coach, Jim Boeheim. That’s usually a combination to bet on, but Syracuse also has a history of early exits. The Orange are a title contender, but not the Final Four lock they once seemed.
The Denver Channel

Fabulous Freshmen

Syracuse point guard Tyler Ennis (12.7 points, 5.6 assists per game) has gotten some mention for national freshman of the year. Ennis could meet his competition if Andrew Wiggins (17.4 ppg) leads Kansas to the South Region final. Wiggins has scored 93 points in his past three games.

Express Times

South
Because Kansas will be without Embiid for the first few games, I have New Mexico pulling the upset in the third round. Syracuse would eventually defeat the Lobos and end up facing the overall No. 1 seed Florida. Syracuse started the season as one of the hottest teams in the country before slipping through the end of the regular season. Florida, however, hasn't lost since December. The Gators advance to North Texas.

Lubbock Avalanche Journal

Syracuse, who limps into the tournament, will have a tough matchup with MAC champion Western Michigan in the first round. The Orange do get the benefit of playing in Buffalo, so it will be a defacto home game. Syracuse needs to get their offense going if they want to make a run, but should get past the Broncos regardless.

Forbes Report on secondary price trends

Forbes on East being most expensive region but SU drove the price down(from yesterday)

There were 2 reasons the prices for the Eastern regional were the highest.

1) Syracuse fans buying tickets on speculation the team would be placed there and

2) The unreported scandal that happened with ticket sales for the regional at MSG, where the NCAA sold all the tickets earmarked for the general public to scalpers before the public sale started, so there were zero tickets sold to the public for that regional (other than the tickets reserved for the teams that will earn the right to play there). I would love to see a reporter investigate what happened to all the tickets for the public for the Eastern Regional. Some people need to get fired and sent to jail for their criminal actions.

2. Syracuse will lose in the second round: Momentum is an area that isn't spotlighted enough as an ingredient for a jaw-dropping upset. Consider Syracuse on the wrong side of that. The Orange have been scrutinized since a perfect 25-0 record unraveled into a late-season stretch in which 'Cuse lost five of its final seven games. Jim Boeheim will be the first to tell you his team hasn't truly dominated opponents this season, evidenced in a bevy of close ACC victories to basement teams and a pair of head-scratching losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College.

That's where Western Michigan enters the mix. The Mid-American Conference tournament champs won't be the most hyped Cinderella sleeper. But there's enough weaponry to pull off the upset of the tournament. David Brown (19.4 ppg) and Shayne Whittington (16.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg) make for a potent inside-out presence that could counter 'Cuse's matchup 2-3 zone.

No. 3 Syracuse vs. No. 14 Western Michigan: The Orange had a late-season swoon. However, Syracuse is still good and Jim Boeheim's bunch will probably be all jacked up after watching "Requiem for the Big East," which probably should have been called "A Love Letter to 'Cuse." The pick: Syracuse.

Round of 32
South Region

No. 3 Syracuse vs. No. 11 Dayton: Speaking of things that are hard to prepare for in a short amount of time, we've reached the point where it's time to talk about the Orange's zone. It will put Syracuse back in the Sweet 16. The pick: Syracuse.

Sweet 16
South Region

No. 3 Syracuse vs. No. 2 Kansas: Here's a heavyweight slugfest. Both these perennial powers have their share of warts. Might as well just go with the gut on this one. The pick: Syracuse.

Elite 8
South Region

No. 1 Florida vs. No. 3 Syracuse: At the end of the day, Syracuse isn't very deep. It will only take a little bit of foul trouble or fatigue and the Gators will chomp into the Final Four. The pick: Florida.

(14) WESTERN MICHIGAN +13vs (3) Syracuse 2:45pm - CBS
Syracuse limped into the tournament, losing five of their last seven games, including embarrassing performances against Boston College and Georgia Tech at home. Jerami Grant is back from injury, but this team still struggles to score, averaging just 68 points a game. Syracuse doesn't have enough shooters to stretch defenses and is too reliant on C.J. Fair's ability to create on the baseline. This game will be relatively low-scoring and I expect Western Michigan to be patient against the zone defense of the Orange. The Broncos have won 12 of their last 13 games, with the only loss coming in overtime at Toledo, who finished 27-6 on the season. C Shayne Whittington and G David Brown are both seniors and have been great all season for WMU. They will be ready for their opportunity on the big stage. Syracuse has an advantage with the game being played in nearby Buffalo, but this team isn't good enough to blow out a quality opponent. Expect this game to be close throughout.

Some might be surprised to learn the next team in the region, No. 3 seed Syracuse, never got that low despite spending several weeks as the top-ranked team in the nation. Sports books never bought into the Orange, led by freshman point guard Tyler Ennis, as much as the pollsters.

Syracuse’s bandied 25-0 start to the season coincided with a fortunate 10-0 record in games decided by single digits that stuck out to sharp bettors like a Georgetown fan at the Carrier Dome. The mark predictably regressed to 1-4 over the final month of the season, but the Orange are still clinging to a top-100 ranking in Ken Pomeroy’s useful metric for luck.

45. Western Michigan. Will have a few bandwagon fans when people tune in to see the Broncos play Syracuse.

62. Syracuse. Orange fans are diehard -- and everywhere. Due to Syracuse alumni being prominent in the media, SU gets a big push in the press, and so that creates backlash. He said “great coaching and talent wins championships.” Compared to everybody above, Plank went with the most diverse set of picks: he’s the only one who didn’t pick Florida (going with Syracuse instead), and he’s the only one to choose three teams outside the top-2. Syracuse’s best basketball is behind it but I think the Orange can squeak by Western Michigan and Ohio State. Syracuse’s 2-3 zone will do enough to disrupt a poor shooting Buckeyes team, but will lose to Kansas in the elite 8.

-
For the most part I picked the statistically most-probable teams. My Achilles' heel is Syracuse. A boy from upstate N.Y. can dream. Aside from that, I just went straight probability because the house always wins. Being 6-foot-7 and bad at basketball, my bitter side hopes everyone loses. Kind of like if Byrne was bad at math or Roy was bad at being super loud in public.
Comedian Owen Walsh of Sullivan & Son

-
No. 14 Western Michigan (vs. No. 3 Syracuse; then either No. 6 Ohio State/No. 11 Dayton): America should be ready to meet Shayne Whittington, Western Michigan’s 6-foot-11 center. The big makes 55.9 percent of his twos, and while WMU hasn’t played Syracuse during the past two seasons, the Broncos have faced a very similar defense. During WMU’s four games against Eastern Michigan, a team coached by ex-Cuse assistant Rob Murphy and one which uses a 2-3 zone, Whittington made 53 percent of his attempts within the arc.

Both of their second round opponents aren’t great at defending the interior — Ohio State and Dayton allow teams to make close to 50 percent of those shots — which is a bonus for a Western Michigan team which is one of the best at converting their twos, ranking twelfth nationally. The other two Broncos who use a high percentage of WMU’s attempts, David Brown and Connar Tava, are efficient up to 19 feet from the basket.

3. Don’t pick Villanova, Syracuse to win title

No team that lost its first conference tournament game has won the NCAA title. Two high-seeded teams that lost its conference tournament opener this year are No. 2 Villanova and No. 3 Syracuse, which is 2-5 since opening the season 25-0. Don’t be afraid to carry these teams deep into the tournament (although I like Ohio State over Syracuse in the round of 32). Just don’t pick them to win the whole thing.

Syracuse's C.J. Fair. The Syracuse senior was on pace to be a First Team All-American until late January. That's when freshman teammate Tyler Ennis took over. And then Syracuse started slipping up. Fair's had a natural progression, and his understated leadership has been pretty important to Syracuse's run. He's beloved by the fans, the kind of player that's got pro potential but casual college hoops fans won't remember in five years. Syracuse fans won't forget him, though.
